Werk12 in Munich, Germany by MVRDV

Monday, December 11th, 2017

Article source: MVRDV

Responding to the diverse industrial history of the current site of WERK12, the challenge was to create an adaptable building that becomes a nucleus for the new emerging Werksviertel neighbourhood located in close proximity to the city’s Ostbahnhof (Munich East railway station). MVRDV’s ambition is to implement a focal point to the area, with a new building that opens in all directions and is at the heart of the Knödelplatz square. The facade of the building is transparent and does not separate inside from outside and instead of isolating its inner activities, it is in constant dialogue with its surroundings. A transparent reincarnation of industrial times celebrating the future.

Old Farmhouse in Munich, Germany by Peter Haimerl

Thursday, December 7th, 2017

Article source: Peter Haimerl

The oldest property in Alt-Riem. The farmhouse, consisting of a house and a stable, was built around 1750. In 2013 the Schusterbauerhaus still retained parts of the housing construction and remains of the stable. Two residential units were installed in this historic structure. The concept of the architect Peter Haimerl concept is based on two premises: retention of the historical building substance and at the same time the introduction of a spatial innovation. It connects the residential house and the stable using a spectacularly inserted concrete cube.

A decommissioned boiler room and its associated coal cellar dating from the 1950s have been transformed into landscape art at Mannheim’s palace. “Dug into the garden, the new complex and the historic building together form a remarkable new entity, yet in a stylistic idiom that is unequivocally 21st century, proving that the future is firmly rooted in the past”, claims Michael Schumacher who, together with Till Schneider, owns schneider+schumacher.

ROOMERS – DESIGNSTORY

Concrete is proud to open Hotel Roomers in Munich; a hotel designed to cater to curious travellers who enjoy the flair and lightness of contemporary design in a classic setting.

‘Seduction’, ‘surprise’, and ‘the unknown’ are the key words behind the design of the hotel. The warm golden glow of the vast Vegas-like light canopy outside and the neon logo attract attention and make them curious about the life that hides behind the diffuse sheer curtains along the facade.

The Japanese stand-alone restaurant IZAKAYA, located in the building of Hotel Roomers, announces its presence to the guests at the moment of arrival, with the show kitchen visible through the glass facade of the porte-cochere. Living on the Herrenkamp in Bielefeld, Germany by Wannenmacher + Möller Architekten

Wednesday, November 1st, 2017

Article source: Wannenmacher + Möller Architekten

The high demand for student housing is the reason for the initiation of this new development on the edge of Bielefeld’s city centre.  It was only in 2009 that a new land use plan was approved for this area, prescribing two-story detached houses with sloping roofs for this location on a narrow building plot. Following on from this, the draft provides for the establishment of four detached houses, each with two floors and a stacked storey.
