The Shearer’s Quarters is located on ‘Waterview’, an historic farming property on North Bruny Island on land first granted to Captain James Kelly in 1840. The property is a working sheep farm of 440 hectares that has been operated by the one family for 10 years. The priority to date has been the rejuvenation of the landscape with over 150 hectares reserved for conservation purposes and over 6,000 indigenous trees planted.

Visitor Centre in Australia by Jonathan Gibb – Architect

Saturday, September 29th, 2012

Article source: Jonathan Gibb – Architect

The split form is at once an ode to the landforms of the genus loci (rock out-crops) and the cultural interweave of local cultures. The building is distinctly two forms, the same yet mirrored & reversed to give a individuality & yet allowing each to speak – open faced to one another in constant dialogue. This dialogue is continued to the landscape by the form of the building, mimicking the shafts of rock and forming of stairs.

Majestic Theatre Apartments in Sydney by Hill Thalis Architecture + Urban Projects

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

Article source: Adrian Chan

The Majestic Theatre was built in 1921 as a substantial brick building with a strongly worked, rendered façade to New Canterbury Road. It is suspected that the original building housed vaudeville productions, as there was modest stage area, and very small back of house.

The quality of the architectural fabric, and its strong urban presence saw the building retained and transformed for new uses when the theatre ceased operation. This led to a series of modifications and new uses over time.

Seacliff House in Sydney, Australia by Chris Elliott Architects

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Article source: Chris Elliott Architects

A house for a family of four.

Everyday life occurs on a platform overlooking the sea. Beneath this the rock is carved out to form a grotto. Above the platform is a protective cocoon for sleeping. Astride all this at roof level sits a belvedere accessible only via a narrow curved stair, as in a Martello tower.

Wintergarden Facade in Brisbane, Australia by Studio 505

Saturday, July 28th, 2012

Article source: Studio 505

“The Wintergarden Façade is a radically experiential composition, a complex and beautiful study of nature, geometry and layering that communicates the rich diversity of life”

The brief for the new facades to the three street frontages of the Wintergarden Shopping Centre in central Brisbane required the creative application of a coherent identity and architecturally holistic sensibility in order to realise a multitude of intentions – to create an entertaining and engaging retail experience, a lifestyle destination and a ‘must-go-to’ meeting place and thoroughfare – at the heart of Brisbane’s city centre.

Park House in Brisbane, Australia by Shaun Lockyer Architects

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

Article source: Shaun Lockyer Architects

The Park House is a dramatic alteration and addition to what was originally a speculative ‘cookie cutter’ style house in a larger development (but in a fantastic park-side location in inner city Brisbane).

The house explores the reprogramming of two key areas, primarily associated with living and lifestyle. The first and foremost altered area is the kitchen / living / dining which has been redesigned to optimise the indoor / outdoor living experience.
