Refurbishment of an Apartment in Barcelona, Spain by Allaround Lab

Wednesday, October 18th, 2017

Article source: Allaround Lab

The project is located at a stone’s throw away from the most popular urban park in Barcelona – Parc de la Ciutadella -, amidst Eixample urban surroundings; inside a classical building with high vaulted ceilings and six dwellings per landing. To our surprise, we were left with challenging irregular perimeter difficult to resolve into a functional layout.

Weightless concrete. Steeled glass. Cubes that levitate and take part in the social and family life of this home where sharing is the leitmotif that pervades the design. Space imbued with light that accentuates the solidity of black, the colour that forges an infinite alliance with white.

Piso Parlament19 in Barcelona, Spain by MIEL ARQUITECTOS & STUDIO P10

Wednesday, September 6th, 2017

Article source: MIEL ARQUITECTOS & STUDIO P10

Two windows facing a party wall, our point of reference, the beginning of the project… Where serendipity arose and focused our purpose.

Parlament19 is our experiment with reflective ergonomics. A creative distribution of mirrors enticing the glimmer of light, which cautiously entered this third floor Sant Antoni apartment. Inviting the trees and the nature of the barrio into the space.

We extended this design strategy to the internal distribution of space. Positioning a cube of mirrors, acting as a kaleidoscope of light at the geometric hinge of the apartment.

An anodyne office building from the 1970s with not enough free height between the floor structures but at the same time higher than the current law allows, constructed above railway arches which subjected it to an insufferably high level of vibration.
