Abovedada House in Chiloé, Chile by EDWARD ROJAS ARQUITECTOS

Thursday, August 19th, 2021

Article source: EDWARD ROJAS ARQUITECTOS

Abovedada house is located on a high-rise terrain with good sun and extraordinary views of the landscape. It is conceived as a set of very defined modules crowned with barrel vaults; those that house different functions. The central module is the common space (living room – kitchen) for the family and guests. The one at the north end, houses the parents’ bedroom and is considered a second skin to cover a winter garden. And at the south end is the module with the children’s bedrooms. These volumes are interconnected by corridors – galleries and terraces that look at the landscape that draws on the horizon the Chilean Patagonia.

Coo Lodge in Chiloé, Chile by ORTUZAR +GEBAUER ARQUITECTOS

The place has an unbeatable view where the volcanoes appear like a white mantle on the horizon and the tide goes down abruptly and let’s see different layers on the ground: a beautiful sandy beach, then stones with sand and after that, ordered stones that draw circular geometries between the beach and the sea. At that moment, the place whispers its history to us.

The first inhabitants, seamen, the Chonos or Payos as they are known in the area, were nomadic navigators, who left their traces in the sea, their fishing corrals.

Makuc House in Chiloé, Chile by OruzarGebauer Architects

Friday, June 17th, 2016

Article source: OruzarGebauer Architects

This project is located in the north of the big island of Chiloé, in an area called Huei hue, where the sea penetrates the land as a stretchmark, weaving a close relationship between land and sea.

The terrain is located in a sort of a peninsula from where it strategically dominates the relations with its surroundings: on the one hand, the inland entries of the sea that come from this arm, and on the other hand the immeasurable Gulf of Ancud, having as its backdrop the detachment of the Andes and its volcanoes, generously receiving the light from the east, north and west, and thus exposing itself incidentally to the strong winds and rain coming from the northwest.
