German Pavilion Expo 2020 in Dubai, UAE by LAVA

Saturday, January 22nd, 2022

Article source: LAVA

LAVA’s design of the German Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai is an ensemble of suspended cubes, a forest of steel poles, covered by a floating roof. And behind these visually exciting design elements everything from intelligent use of local climatic conditions to materials reuse to connectedness is sustainable.

“The key question was how to design a temporary exhibition and event space for up to three million visitors in a desert environment that was sustainable. LAVA’s solution linked the Expo theme of connectedness, with our approach of ‘more with less’, with humans interacting with nature and technology at its heart,” said Tobias Wallisser, director of LAVA.

Article source: SPEECH architectural office

EXPO 2020 takes place in Dubai. The exhibition territory is divided into three thematic districts: Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability. Russian Pavilion’s moto is ‘Creative mind: driving the future’. Situated in the Mobility district, the Russia Pavilion develops precisely this theme. In embodying the image of the national pavilion, Sergei Tchoban, the architect of the project, set out to convey in the building’s compositional design the idea of constant movement as the prerequisite for unstoppable progressive development, creation, and progress. The pavilion is in the form of two hemispheres, one inside the other. The two hemispheres are domes embodying the image of Planet Russia and symbolizing wholeness and universality.

Italian Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020 in UAE by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati

Monday, October 18th, 2021

Article source: CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati

The Italian Pavilion building at Expo Dubai 2020, designed by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and Italo Rota Building Office, with Matteo Gatto and F&M Ingegneria, was officially unveiled on October 1st, 2021, as part of the first World Expo ever held in the Arab world. The project puts forward an all-encompassing vision for reconfigurable architecture and circular design involving some of Italy’s most innovative companies. The pavilion features a multimedia façade made with two million recycled plastic bottles, new types of building materials – from algae and coffee grounds to orange peels and sand – and an advanced system for climate mitigation that constitutes an alternative to air conditioning. Reusing is also fundamental to how the structure was conceived. The pavilion utilizes three real-sized boat hulls, which could potentially set sail after the event, to create and shape the roof of the building. The Italian Pavilion extends over a surface of 3.500 square meters (38.000 square feet) and will be open until March 31st, 2022.

Filful in Dubai by H2R Design

Sunday, December 27th, 2020

Article source: H2R Design

H2R DESIGN, the renowned design firm with award-winning projects across the Middle East, designed the interiors and exteriors of Filful, a Lebanese street food kiosk in Dubai Marina Mall. With a menu based on the bites that are enjoyed across Beirut’s streets, the 70 square meter kiosk houses a shawarma zone, an Arabic bakery oven, a section for drinks and a kitchen area, all visible for passer-by’s to see, smell, hear and develop cravings for.

The brief for this project included packing a variety of operational functions into a relatively compact space and at the same time, creating a vibrant and loud design, highlighting authentic food, illustrating Beirut’s vibrant street food scene. An area adjacent to Filful’s side wall was also a canvas for creative ideas.

Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and Italo Rota Building Office

Thursday, March 19th, 2020

Article source: CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and Italo Rota Building Office

Exactly one year before the opening of the World Fair in Dubai (Expo 2020), Italy unveils the final design for its national pavilion, conceived by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati, Italo Rota Building Office, matteogatto&associati and F&M Ingegneria. As if docking after a journey by sea, three boats will arrive in Dubai and become the backbone of the pavilion, part of an exploration into recycling, circularity and reconfigurable architecture. The Pavilion will open its doors to the public on October 20th, 2020, in Dubai, U.A.E., and will remain open until April 10th, 2021.

The radical design is based on a circular approach to architecture. Three boats will arrive in Dubai and will be converted into the pavilion’s roofscape. In a similar way, the project integrates sustainable materials – such as orange peels, coffee grounds, mycelium and recycled plastic extracted from the ocean – as construction elements.
