Article source: Fentress Architects

While the official opening of the U.S. pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai -the next World’s Fair- on October 20, 2020 feels far away, Pavilion USA 2020, the partnership responsible for the United States’ National Pavilion, has been making important headway in the design and planning of the landmark building destined to represent more than 325 million Americans.

The initial plans for the building and its experiences were released at a ceremony in Dubai on November 28th.  The event featured the unveiling of an architectural model of the U.S. pavilion, designed by world-renowned American architect Curtis W. Fentress, FAIA, RIBA; and a tour of the American experiences currently being designed by Detroit-based design firm George P. Johnson Experiential Marketing.

Today marks the opening of the much-anticipated Jameel Arts Centre, an innovative cultural destination developed by Art Jameel, the independent organisation that supports arts, education and heritage in the Middle East. Designed as a 10,000-square-metre, three-storey, multi-disciplinary space by UK-based Serie Architects, Jameel Arts Centre is the first non-governmental contemporary arts institution of its kind in the Gulf.

The kunsthalle-inspired complex includes more than 1,000 square metres of dedicated gallery space, plus a 300-square-metre open-access research centre; events and screening spaces; a roof terrace; a restaurant; and a book and design shop. The Centre’s adaptable spaces reflect Art Jameel’s commitment to diverse programming across mediums and nurturing artist careers, as the galleries are deliberately designed in a variety of sizes and volumetric proportions to allow a flexible range of settings for exhibitions, site-specific installations and new commissions.

Pots Pans & Boards is a restaurant concept from British Michelin Star chef Tom Aikens, in which sharing dishes is the key element in creating a relaxed, family atmosphere. Being served in an assortment pots, pans and boards, as well as more traditional plates, it will allow guests to share the dishes openly with each other. The concept is developed around a casual and comfortable dinner at home, which is reflected in the menu, and had a strong influence on the interior design of the restaurant.

Hai D3 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by ibda design

Monday, May 21st, 2018

Article source: ibda design

Hai d3 is a mixed-use community that serves as headquarters to the Dubai Design District, the hub for emerging local creative talent in the UAE.

With the need for a temporary facility to host community projects and events, it was crucial for the Hai d3 development to be flexible and able to accommodate quick assembly and disassembly in a sustainable manner. Integrating traditional Arabic neighbourhood planning into the design, the architecture was composed as a modular system, using 40-foot shopping containers in a stacking and layout arrangement.

Minimalist Opulence in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by EDGE

Sunday, April 1st, 2018

Article source: v2com

Located less than 150 metres from the beach at the prestigious Jumeirah Beach Residence in Dubai, the flagship project sets a new standard for luxury in the Persian Gulf region. The design principles behind the building are guided by two main goals: waterfront views and spatial clarity.

The waterfront views are special because they will be visible from every room in every unit. Residents will look out over Dubai’s iconic landmarks, including Skydive Dubai, Palm Island, Blue Waters Island and Ain Dubai. This guiding principle gives added value to the land and maximizes revenue for the developer.
