Hotel Far & Near XinYuqingli St. in China by kooo architects

Sunday, December 1st, 2019

Article source: kooo architects

XinYuqingli is the second guesthouse kooo architects designed after the hotel Far&Near Nanhao St, targeted towards young travelers.

As a four-floor guesthouse with 411 sqm gross area, the owner needs more numbers of rooms to satisfy the increasing number of guests. The original layout was reconstructed to maximize the use of space, in turn creating 11 guest rooms, including 7 double and 4 single rooms.

The existing beams and columns are simple and clean. Aiming to preserve the beauty of these existing concrete structures, we chose to expose them as a part of the interior design. The guest rooms are furnished with basswood plywood, while the public area use meranti plywood in contrast with the exposed concrete structures. We designed this way to preserve both nature and the particular industrial aesthetic or the original architecture, at the same time satisfying the low budget.

Guangzhou Lion International in China by VMDPE Design Group

Wednesday, May 8th, 2019

Article source: VMDPE Design Group

The Lion International Kindergarten Project is located in an old residential community in the Tianhe District of Guangzhou. Surrounded by old-fashioned houses, the community itself lacks a venue for children’s activities. Children here are in desperate need of a comfortable and safe environment to learn and play.

The project sits in an old granary with an area of barely 500sqm, and presents multiple contradictions between functionality, spatial distribution and environment adequacy. Through conscious design, VMPDE breaks away with the restrictions generated by the surrounding areas and the space available, to create a healthy and sustainable environment for children to grow.

Meow Restaurant in Guangzhou, China by E Studio

Wednesday, December 12th, 2018

Article source: E Studio

Meow Restaurant is a cat-themed cafe that explores the fun of space. The café is transformed from a red-wall warehouse built in the 1990s. With the location of Butterfield & Swire’s Godowns & Wharf, which is popular among the citizens, the café is not only a place for fifty lovely cats, but also for cat lovers to have parties, enjoy meals and hold pet salon.

With the concept of a sharing space for both people and cats, the challenge of this project is to keep balance between the spaces for the two users.

All the scales and designs of the project are related to cats. In response to the “forest” as the client referred to, by using an abstract design method, E Studio uses blocks and platform devices to connect different spaces instead of illustrating a real forest.

Located in Tianhe District of Guangzhou City, the Shadong village, where sits the buildings of this project, was erected in December 1995. The local economic corporation in the late 90s constructed on the commune’s fringe land a 4-storey warehouse leased to the Guangzhou Book Center for their new book storage. Eight years ago, the company constructed a new five-story warehouse building on the northern side of the previous one. The status quo of the site is now one new and one old vacant multi-story warehouse building.
