KFC Hangzhou Theater in China by SPACEMEN

Wednesday, September 5th, 2018

Article source: SPACEMEN

Spacemen were commissioned to create a unique concept for a very challenging site that stretched 90m long by only 4m wide which had two flights of stairs sandwiched in between that. What was deemed as constraints, we saw as an opportunity to rethink how people interact and dine in restaurants. Taking inspiration from public spaces, the design is characterised by our reinterpretation of outdoor and park seating arrangements.

By capturing natural light and shadow, we draws inspiration from the highly agrarian image of \”seeds\” for the design of the new Yan Ji You book store in Hangzhou, located in Raffles City Plaza of Qianjiang New City. In continuation of its exploration on the relation between design and cities, we applies the natural elements into the design of space and gives it a dynamic sense of life while strengthening the connection between brand design and Hangzhou culture.

Jingshan Boutique Hotel in Hangzhou, China by Continuation Studio

Tuesday, September 5th, 2017

Article source: Continuation Studio

This is a project that started from engaging with the site. The site is located up on a mountain ridge, next to a reservoir’s dam. There was previously a two-story “San-Ho-Yuan” style dormitory block built back in the 1980s, with a courtyard surrounded by the concave form of the block. There stands an ancient pine in the centre serves as the heart of the courtyard, with its dense canopy covering half of the courtyard and part of the building. Meanwhile, the historical context of the site, to the north of the Jing-Shan Mountain that once gestated the Zen tea ceremony, has prepared it with a deep historical and cultural ambiance. As a result, to preserve the courtyard structure as well as the ancient pine, in order to generate its potential spatial spirit, has been established as our design proposition.

Hangzhou No.2 School of Future Sci-Tech City in China by LYCS Architecture

Friday, September 2nd, 2016

Article source: LYCS Architecture

Traditional primary and secondary school planning in modern Chinese cities usually provides students and children with an adult-scale campus environment at an excessively early stage. Such environment gives no help to them in coping with high educational and social pressure. Facing these phenomenon, it is the architects’ responsibility to subversively break these conventions in school planning and offer children with space of their own scale and age in which they will enjoy living and studying.
