Atasehir Urban Park designed by Studio Vertebra in Istanbul, aims to to create a center of attraction for the Asian side of the city and stimulate social activities with its functional spaces on an urban green zone such as food courts, exhibition center, performance center, gastronomy center and activity areas for the children.
Shaped as a long and narrow rectangle, the project area is situated in the south of Bilgi University’s Silahtarağa Campus, which has been transformed into an educational institution from the Silahtarağa Power Plant, the first power plant of Turkey. The southern part of the area contains lodging buildings dated to the 1st National Architecture Period and once allocated to the accommodation, recreation, and social activities of power plant employees. The 180 m by 20 m plot dimensions designated in the master plan required the building mass to be shaped as a long and narrow rectangle as well. Taking into consideration the surrounding fabric and historic buildings, the block effect of the building was lessened with terrace gardens repeating on the vertical level. The nearly 50-meter length of lodging and school buildings were determinative in the division of the 150 meter-length building by three terrace gardens, so they could be perceived as four blocks, the longest of which is 42 meters.
Met Global office project is located within an area of 2.250m² in Teknopark Bloklari in Davutpasa Campus of YTU. The office located at a single space on the top floor has a capacity of 325 personnel. The business field where the company operates manufactures software and information technologies on tourism basis. In this sense, they have a quite young and dynamic staff integrated with the digital environment. Created moving from this point, the interior concept setup is designed to be matched with the general characteristic of the office and the personnel profile. Accordingly, the modern and contemporary design language as adopted is blended with the color use, and vitality and dynamism are brought to the interior spaces. Moreover, there is a reception wall that shapes the first impressions of the users and visitors about the brand at the entrance hall of the office. In the design of this wall, there is inspired from the ‘pixel” form with respect to the software and information industry as produced by the company.
Studio Vertebra has demonstrated great success and became a finalist at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) Awards, which is considered as one of the most prestigious awards in the architecture world. Achieving to remain on the short list at the World Architecture Festival which will be held in Berlin Arena on 15-17 November 2017, The Studio Vertebra’s design Volume Istanbul will be presented to the jury under the category “Office Projects”.
