Panificio San Giuseppe in Ragusa, Italy by DFG Architetti

Article source: DFG Architetti

Water, flour and thousand-year old motions that smell like an everlasting good morning…The Bakery isn’t only a shop, it’s a treasure chest where the memory of mankind hides, a source of material, social and spiritual life. Calling it only a shop is impossible… even more difficult is to degrade it to a simple point of sale. Since the start this location was meant to be highly prestigious, a small precious stone set in the city, able to communicate its expressive depiction and its soul at first sight.

Cabanon in Italian Ligurian Alps, Italy by Officina82

Friday, July 20th, 2018

Article source: Officina82

The little wooden building was designed starting from the detailed study of rural constructions formerly used as barns or foliage sheds next to chestnut groves.

The proportions, the structural system and construction details have been redesigned into a small building annexed to the main house, maintaining a strong link with the rural architecture of the area and thus a coherent landscaping.

The building is located at 1,000 m a.s.l. in the heart of the Italian Ligurian Alps. The large windows on the southern facade open to a wide horizon leading to the French border. An opening on the northern wall, of the width of a chestnut board, reveals the woods at the border.

Article source: humusstudio

Located in the business center of the city of Milan, the project is part of an extremely important context for the establishment of the turnaround of KKR, an international private equity investment firm with Unicredit and Intesa Sanpaolo, which was established at the end of July and named Pillarstone Italy spa. The “PIAZZA AFFARI” project concerns the redevelopment of an old office space, completely renovated for the headquarters of the new Pillarstone company, completed in 2016. It is about 500 square meters occupied by reception, common break area, offices with more than 30 workstations, two meeting rooms and a large board room. We worked in team with HI LITE next to manage the lighting design project in all offices.

TLI House in Tuscany, Italy by ARCHITETTURA MATASSONI

Tuesday, July 17th, 2018

Article source: ARCHITETTURA MATASSONI

To think about different spaces in which to do different activities in different moments of the day is a mechanical mental form inherited by modern industrial culture.

Architecture has to get past and to unhinge this rigid manner to conceive life spaces.

This is the main effort for the renovation of a flat, contained inside an early-seventies block of apartments, despite its small size!

Dairy store Valtellina in Postalesio, Italy by PIUARCH SRL

Friday, July 13th, 2018

Article source: PIUARCH SRL

A land of infinite differences, of practically irreconcilable cultures, of sea and mountains, plains, lakes, small towns and hamlets unique in the world: this is Italy, and it is precisely its complex physiognomy – an extraordinary group of identities – that inspired the theme of the Italian Pavilion at the 16th edition of the Biennale Architettura 2018. “Arcipelago Italia. Projects for the future of the country’s interior territories” is in fact the theme of curator Mario Cucinella’s project at the famous Venetian kermesse: it contains those places, often far from the nerve centers of production and the increasingly international business districts, where the landscape it is still largely rural and authentic.

M Greenhouse in Pistoia, Italy by Lapo Ruffi Architetti / LRA

Monday, July 9th, 2018

Article source: Lapo Ruffi Architetti / LRA

The project was realised as a replacement of an old greenhouse to accommodate the growing collection of citrus trees during the colder months. Cultivators for passion, the client requested a new service building, a little architecture able to contain a room for tree winter rest and a storage room for agricultural tools but also a space for silence and meditation among the plants. This design reveals the mechanism that simultaneously enchances architecture and nature: the contrast between the artificial character of the former and the organic traits of the latter. The main building material is natural larch wood. The façades are made of rough sawn wooden slats, which are attached to the inner wooden structure along with polycarbonate. The slope of the roof is designed to be a continuation of the façade, maintaining the integrity of the volume. Besides meeting some pragmatic functions the project developed to become a study on transparency and translucency. During the day it becomes translucent while polycarbonate panels diffuse sunlight, and at night, the pavilion become floating sculptural lantern in the hills’ horizon. An architecture capable of preserving the richness and uniqueness of the place while inserting into the landscape a further fragment of landscape, in an effort to bring not only to construct an object but to create an artificial place or landscape.
