South Korean studio D·LIM architects has completed a multipurpose facility for CJ, one of the country largest companies. Located at the center’s golf club on Jejuisland, the subterranean project avoids disrupting views of the surrounding forest and natural landscape.
DDP is the first public project in Korea to utilize the 3-Dimensional Building Information Modelling (BIM) and other digital tools in construction. Throughout the design process, every building requirement was considered as a set of inter-related spatial relationships which will define the social interactions and behavioural structure in/around the project. These relationships became the framework of the design, defining how different aspects of the project, such as spatial organization, programmatic requirements, and engineering come together.
About 20 years ago, government held “the house expo” in GangNam and constructed this “expo town” of low-rise residences, and every site of this town were designed by selected architects who had been famous in Korea at that time.
The site of “GaOnJai” was one of this monumental town, but the owner of this house who purchased house of this site, has built, newly, after tearing down the old house of this site.
The site Located is limited to a very small area, small even for a house: 8 meters wide and 20 meters long, with a 175 m2 area. Nine studio apartments had to be packed into this 5 story multiplex housing building. As is the case for all rental housing in Korea, the building had to be profitable and economical and yet the building should be pleasant and even pleasing for the residents.
A+ animal hospital interior design ventures what values atypical design could make in 53㎡, offering an utilitarian furniture fit into the programs. It was a critical challenge to make a spacious amusement place for pets, even 5 clinic rooms are necessary to operate the hospital. It was a main concern that the interior image from a street produces a symbol of A+ animal hospital as well as atypical design language produces all the required space in 53㎡. It was important to re interpret programs as much as to design space efficient furniture.
Clent & Me: The client made many concessions to me, while helping me much. She often said I had an obsessive character “ why don’t you buy this house ?, I will sell it to you.”
Rock It Suda is a name for the pension and it’s concept. The client is a base guitarist, a member of the amateur rock group named Rock It Suda. On regular basis , they perform live, at the pension.
The site has a dry river, and an open view in front, and the other sides are, surrounded by the mountain range. The 6 ways of capturing the beautiful scenery gave birth to spatial contraction, expansion, and compression, then themes such as Spain, Barbie, Stealth+Ferrari, cave, and Korean traditional house were added.
These are the questions that Korean architect Hoon Moon typically throws out: ‘Why so serious? Why not laugh more?’ Moon-Hoon’s works are home to a wide array of faces. Panorama House appears to be an accordion, and Rock It Suda looks like spermatozoa. He shows a mysterious spacecraft (ongdalsam) and a Gothic castle (Sangsang Museum). Some may burst out laughing at the Darth Vader image overlying Play House.
A display landscape
The ‘Shop in Shop’ concept for Neil Barrett is based on a singular, cohesive project that is divided into sixteen separate pieces. Specific pieces have then been selected and installed into each of the four Neil Barrett ‘Shop in Shop’s in Seoul, and also into the Hong Kong shop; creating a unique display landscape within each store. Each separate element acts a as piece in a puzzle of the original ensemble, ensuring each shop maintains a relationship to the defined whole and with the other Neil Barrett Shop in Shop locations.
Rural houses, or farmhouses are easily seen around countryside. However, these artificial forms are being placed here and there thoughtlessly in Mother Nature.A common stereotyped rural houses around Namhae, Jindo, and Pyeongchang have set a scenery of 20th century’s Korean farm village. One might say, the system of a local constructor also being a designer also being a constructor is extremely economical in terms of building rural houses. However, mother nature we have is too nice to only covered with identically produced rural houses.
