Mosman House in New South Wales, Australia by Shaun Lockyer Architects

Wednesday, April 10th, 2019

Article source: Shaun Lockyer Architects

The Mosman House is a ‘Brazilian Modern’ inspired home perched on Sydney Harbour overlooking Taylor’s Bay. The house mediates between grounded courtyard living on the north and a dramatically cantilevered edge that addresses the enviable water views to the south. A textured and honest palette of concrete, stone, timber and steel creates a timeless and robust backdrop to the interiors, exquisitely executed by Justine Hugh‐Jones, as well as the landscape, masterfully curated by William Dangar. The architecture juxtaposes ideas of solidity and intimacy, with lightness and extroversion, all beautifully crafted by the hand of County Constructions for our generous and supportive clients.

Blueys Beach House 5 in Australia by Bourne Blue Architecture

Thursday, September 20th, 2018

Article source: Bourne Blue Architecture

Blueys Beach is a popular holiday destination, on the Mid North Coast of NSW, Australia.

The original houses in this coastal village are simple fibro or weatherboard structures. They are weather beaten and basic,  yet they generally offer a relaxing beach holiday experience.  Unfortunately, when properties change hands, original buildings are often replaced by large suburban houses, which have little recognition of place and relate poorly to the immediate context

This house was designed on an empty but narrow (12m x 42m) block. The site slopes gently down to the rear, and there are established houses on neighboring blocks.

Susuru in New South Wales, Australia by Prevalent

Friday, January 5th, 2018

Article source: Prevalent

Situated in a prominent building from 1906, SUSURU Ramen and Gyoza bar enlivens the façade and street it rests on. Working closely with the City Council, the design breaks away from the traditional mining aesthetic typical of the area. As the city grows and develops, it attracts more foreign attention, whom don’t necessarily have the same rapport with what was largely a mining town many years ago. The SUSURU restaurant is for the newcomers, for those visiting, and most importantly, for those long term residents wanting to see the city develop and diversify.

The wraparound swimming pool plays the starring role in these alterations and additions and becomes the architectural pivot that binds one hundred years of history.

The organic two-storey addition at the back of a single storey 1910 cottage is surrounded by a swimming pool and the water is the focus that holds the two distinct sections of the house together.

Hunters Hill is an attractive, historic peninsula that lies between the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers on the north shore of Sydney Harbour.  The suburb, a precursor to the Garden City movement, was subdivided in the 19th century with sandstone mansions and Victorian timber cottages sitting side by side, with large gardens and private parks containing centuries old trees.

Bougainvillea Row House in New South Wales, Australia by Luigi Rosselli Pty Ltd – Architects

Tuesday, June 6th, 2017

Article source: Luigi Rosselli Pty Ltd – Architects

Sydney’s planners are considering the return of the terraced house, or row house, as a favoured residential building type.  It is believed the terrace could be one solution to addressing housing affordability; by allowing the subdivision of standard quarter acre blocks of land into narrow strips and building adjoining two-three storey dwellings.

The scheme included working around an existing slab & steel structure. With minor modifications to the structure, and some small extensions to the portal steel frames, we were able to create open, light filled spaces with private bedroom pods each having private deck and garden areas. The outdoor and indoor areas blend into shared spaces including a large infinity pool & spa area opening up to expansive Kangaroo Valley views.

The Birdcage Lift Enquiry in New South Wales, Australia by Luigi Rosselli Pty Ltd – Architects

Friday, April 28th, 2017

Article source: Luigi Rosselli Pty Ltd – Architects

It began with a simple enquiry. “Can we have a bird cage lift?” And so with this addition at its core, a once unexceptional dwelling on Sydney Harbour was transformed into an extraordinary waterfront townhouse. By reconfiguring the house around a revived grand stair with the new bird cage lift at its centre, accessibility, comfort, elegance and good living across five stories was made possible.
