Westgate Oxford, a premium destination in the heart of Oxford and just an hour from London, has opened its doors to the public. Chapman Taylor, supporting Laing O’Rourke, was appointed to deliver the highly-anticipated regeneration project, a joint venture between Landsec and The Crown Estate, which is the largest shopping and leisure development to open in the UK this year.
Maggie’s is an innovative charity that provides emotional and practical support to anyone with cancer, helping them to take a more active and informed role in their treatment. Central to Maggie’s offering is making sure this care is provided in a stimulating and uplifting environment, with close proximity to nature. The charity takes great pride in commissioning forward-thinking architects, and asked Chris Wilkinson in 2006 to develop a design for its centre in Oxford. The Oxford Maggie’s Centre sits in the densely wooded boundary of the Churchill Hospital site.
Founded in 1957, the Middle East Centre at St Antony’s College serves as the University of Oxford’s facility for research and teaching on the Arab world, Iran, Israel and Turkey from the 19th century to the present day, with its focus on the research of humanities and social sciences. The centre has been housed at 68 Woodstock Road (the former rectory of the Church of St Philip and St James, built in 1887) since 1978.

Two new buildings by Bennetts Associates have recently been completed for St Antony’s College in Oxford.
The five-storey Gateway Buildings are a significant addition to St Antony’s estate, defining a new presence for the College on one of the main routes serving the city centre. The project comprises a new main entrance, Porters’ Lodge, 54 en-suite study bedrooms, offices for
College staff and meeting/work space within glazed rooftop pavilions.
Along with the master plan for the University of Oxford’s new Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Rafael Viñoly Architects was hired to design the masterplan’s first building, the Mathematical Institute. The new building consolidates a department that was previously spread across multiple locations to provide a new focus and identity that balances researchers’ need for privacy with the increasing importance of interdisciplinary collaboration.
Building Program: Faculty offices, lecture halls, classrooms, meeting rooms, faculty common rooms, social space, green roof and terrace, underground parking
The new library, research centre and archive for St. Antony’s College overcomes strong physical constraints to form a suspended ‘bridge’ between existing buildings – blending built and natural elements to find a coherent form – fronted by a curved frameless glass façade which sweeps above a sunken courtyard area.
