Not so far from Pakchong downtown, Nakornrachasima province, in the vacation town embraced by cool and mild weather, there is a project initially designed to be a meeting place for friends or guests from other provinces. At first visit to the location, the architect was impressed by a small hill with a curve of beautiful stream running on the back side with abundant woods on the other side. The only issue is a small busy road in front of the location that may be annoying. The first priority is to create the private area up to the stream side while blocking the annoying sound and view at the road.
KA House is a vacation home for a couple, who enjoy outdoor activities and spending their relaxing time in a grand courtyard, where they can run ad play with family members or lay down for a great view toward the lake. The house was designed to enclose the grand inner courtyard. Therefore, the building lays closing to the entrance connecting with the fence. In that sense, the courtyard facing the lake view performs as an actual ‘entrance’, while the front access looks as if it is the rear of the house. The inclining fence guides the vista from the outside to the inside. At the same time, while walking through the entrance, the space gradually reveals the space of the inner courtyard and the building.
The design concept of W-House is derived from the requirement that the owner would like the house that expresses his character in terms of space and form. Therefore, the design subject was how to interpret the owner’s lifestyle and passion into architecture. The idea initiated by the owner’s favorite activity of traveling and kayaking. There was one picture of a boat sailing on the river that has inspired the designer. The river acts as a supporter for the boat. As a house, the function areas of living room, dining room, and service are supporters for the private areas of bedrooms. The bedrooms are like the boat which the river is supporting underneath for sailing. The idea was developed into the building orientation by maintaining the basic elements but completely reveal the story, functions and context.
