Pink Bar in Paris, France by Jakob+MacFarlane

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Article source: Jakob+MacFarlane

The bar is a new project, built inside the volume of previously housing the cloakroom and restrooms.  This new ‘Pink’ space, as second generation project, is conceived as a resultant element based on the same grid of the original restaurant project.  Instead of deforming the grid to create the surfaced volumes, we instead carved out a resultant volume from a 3D matrix of 40 cubic centimetres, a micro division of the original building grid at the Centre Pompidou.  This matrix is built from 10mm aluminium sheets using laser cutting technology.

Les Grandes Tables de L’île in Paris, France by 1024 Architecture

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Article source: 1024 Architecture

A restaurant/bar/open-air café positioned on Île Seguin in the middle of a temporary garden whilst waiting for the architect Jean Nouvel’s macro project to be implemented, Les Grandes Tables de L’ile is a place to meet, for haute cuisine and why not even parties to accompany the reconstruction of this island steeped in history. The project is an architectural hybridization between an agricultural greenhouse, a barge and a timber-frame house. Modelled after a large wood fibre box suspended in a scaffold structure from which freight containers are hanging, all encompassed beneath a transparent umbrella… An eye-catching iconoclastic assemblage with an area of 300m2 to accommodate120 covers and the cuisine of Arnaud Daguin, a chef with stars to his name.

Monconseil Sport Hall in Paris, France by Explorations architecture + Integrale 4 engineers

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Article source: Explorations architecture + Integrale 4 engineers

Explorations architecture has just completed the Monconseil sports hall in Tours, 150km southwest of Paris. This public building is exemplary of Explorations’ approach to sustainable design. The project emphasis is on natural light, the innovative use of natural materials and renewable energy:

  1. The northern facade is fully glazed in order to avoid the use of electrical lighting in the main hall.
  2. The composite suspended timber/steel roof spans close to 50m to allow for future uses.
  3. The southern facade is clad with a photovoltaic “brise-soleil” in order to reduce energy consumption from the grid.

Our challenge: turning an old bank into a modern optical store in an old but trendy neighborhood of Paris, Le Marais.

This project is the result of a great team work between the firm and our clients. We designed the interior of the optical store in the spirit of the fifties adapted to meet the contemporary expectations of the customers.

Parissy in Paris, France by Malka Architecture

PARIS + ISSY = PARISSY

As infrastructures inhabit and even dominate today’s cities, it is time to accept and give them value. While composed of a poetic vocabulary of sinuous curves and evoking the picturesque, infrastructures have been dedicated to the automobile. Why not offer the richness of this language to pedestrians? Why not organize an open dialectic between vehicles and pedestrians?

The sum of abandoned roads, a non-place with a degraded identity, the site is a territory in mutation, with formidable potential owing to its constituent elements; but it requires transformation in order to construct a strong identity.
