Cadogan Song School in Perth, Australia by Palassis Architects

Thursday, July 4th, 2019

Article source: Palassis Architects

The Cadogan Song School was commissioned to complete the composition of buildings within the historical Treasury/ Cathedral precinct, and provide facilities for the St.George’s Cathedral choir. Located between St. George’s Cathedral, Burt Memorial Hall, Church House and the Deanery, the 200sqm Song School was designed to not only visually balance the composition of unique existing buildings, but allow full access throughout the site.

Consisting of a series of sculptural vaulted arches and a ‘tuning fork’ spire – a contemporary reference to the religious architectural language and defining lancet windows of the Cathedral – the scale and form of the vaults allows the eye to transition and understand the dialogue between old and new.

TL Robertson Library at Curtin University in Perth, Australia by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects

Monday, April 8th, 2019

Article source: Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects

For the past 47 years, the TL Robertson Library at Curtin University in Perth, Aus-tralia has stood as an iconic brutalist structure that welcomes two million visits annually by students, faculty and the greater Perth community. Danish architectural firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, together with Australia-based Hames Sharley, is leading the redevelopment of the library that will modernise the building, making it more than just a storehouse of books.

The library, built in 1972, was originally designed with little natural daylight in order to protect the thousands of books and other physical materials in its collection. Schmidt Hammer Lassen aims to create a “living library” by opening up new path-ways for visual and physical connectivity throughout the building site, while bringing natural light into the space. The new open, light-filled scheme will support knowledge sharing and connection, and ensure the library meets the needs of future users.

Freshwaters in Perth, Australia by Paul Burnham Architect Pty Ltd

Tuesday, January 8th, 2019

Article source: Paul Burnham Architect Pty Ltd

A new timber clad cafe building alongside the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia.

The design is a simple response to it’s setting.

The building is entirely clad in Australian Grey Ironbark timber which will progressively grey off to blend with the ancient local Peppermint trees which give their name to the suburb.

The building is long and low with a fully transparent and openable central seating area.

The design is reflective of it’s location and an exercise in understatement.

House A is 70m2 of compact, flexible and delightful spaces which are capable of hosting a dinner party for 30 guests, illustrating that small can be big.

Applecross McCowan Residence in Perth, Australia by iredale pedersen hook

Thursday, January 19th, 2017

Article source: iredale pedersen hook

Our clients desired a building that would endure time, evoke a sense of permanence and a sense of already existing on the site. Brick was the natural choice that immediately met this requirement.

The site sits on the edge of the Swan River with views to the city of Perth. The design creates an experiential connection to the meandering river, a fluid and dynamic body of water that has carved out mass forming a direct engagement with the occupant.

Mosman Bay House in Perth, Australia by Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects

Wednesday, May 25th, 2016

Article source: Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects

The Mosman Bay House explores two contrasting spatial experiences, one is dynamic and fluid and one is passive and contemplative. One focuses on the distant views to the river and city and one is embedded with the garden. This Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde quality responds to the programmatic requirements of active and communal spaces; living, dining, cooking and private spaces; sleeping, study and bathing.
