The program consisted on the rehabilitation of an existent construction which, given its state of degradation, functioned only as support for the agricultural activity, however, it was necessary to consider an area for housing. The existent construction consisted of an area of traditional stone masonry walls and a late addition of poor characteristics and state of conservation in plastered brick walls. We’ve opted to demolish the latter in order to highlight the original features of the stone volume. In the farm existed also other traditional constructions of great interest such as a granary, a mill, a tank and a stone threshing floor.
An apartment located in the 1st floor of a multi-family housing block representative of the modernist architecture of the 50’s in the city of Porto. Exaggeratedly subdivided, disproportionately dimensioned, and functionally inadequate for nowadays, this space needed an organizational readjustment. Furthermore, it was clear an overlapping of constructive layers (pavements, coverings, ceilings and window frames), that disfigured the space asking for a depuration work.
The building is situated next to “Avenida do Atlântico” in Viana do Castelo. An avenue facing the sea, in which a series of buildings are constructed, which, on a first impression, the urban front, in which the building is inserted, transmits a rather insipid image due to the nature of the programs and options taken in its projects. A characteristic which has become an asset in the conceptualization of the project of the Atlantic Pavilion.
Besides the necessity of the City Council of Viana do Castelo having a sports pavilion, it gives support to the EB 2,3 Pedro Barbosa School and for complementarity use by the community to develop various modalities, it is mainly adjacent in the county’s objectives, to expand the population’s possibility of practising sports activities in covered facilities.
Rio Mau House is located in the countryside of the outskirts of Vila do Conde. The land plot with about 6800 sqm is surrounded by cultivated fields and pine forest near Serra de Rates.
The family house with a single floor is located in the center of the garden surrounded by some existing pine trees. The car and pedestrian accesses through the north zone are highlighted by an entrance porch and a black concrete paved area.
Life and Leisure – A romantic gateway for two or a mobile house in the middle of a lake for the entire family or a group of friends. Whether you choose to use the floating home as a base camp for numerous outdoor activities such as sailing, paddling, water skiing or fishing, or simply to relax, you’re guaranteed a great living experience.
The apartment was visibly disfigured and degraded. The parlors looked over the road; the kitchen and the bedroom stood above an enclosed balcony, which led to an abandoned courtyard where the loquat endured. The project contemplates the conversion of the parlors into bedrooms making way for the living room.
At the heart of the apartment, the wooden corridor emerged between the stone-coated damp zones. The sliding panel, standing between it and the common areas, has two openings, which allows illumination of the corridor and brings the loquat into context.
The interior of this building was in a state of ruin but, despite that, its roof was still standing. Its complex geometry, with four corner pyramidal volumes, determined the project structure and interior partitions, dividing the plan into 9 modules. In the centre module, a staircase joins the three floors, contaminating the space with its yellow glow and natural light coming from above. Its drastically rounded corners carry, in a hidden way, all the building’s vertical services.
The intervention space was demanding: two buildings with more than 100 years of stories. Two distinct buildings of the early twentieth century with two main streets, whose main purpose was to become the new headquarters of Ubiwhere, a software company. The houses were neglected by the passage of time and flogged by the desertion, bringing to the project redoubled complexity.
Located in Aveiro’s city center, in the famous “Barrocas” area, the project is part of a consolidated and mostly a residential area. The main difficulty would be to maintain the essence of the turn of the century, adapting it to the present day with special care and authenticity, therefore, the main objective was to preserve and restore the existing structures in the two buildings, keeping the marks of time.
There are only a few instances in an architectural career where a client and an architect’s vision unify into an immaculate and complete expression of art and architecture. We were very fortunate to work with a couple who, devoted to the ideals of minimalism’s stark allure, asked us to design a house in the Douro , located on the stunning views over Douro valley.
The desire to interfere as little as possible with the visual topography of the landscape prompted to attach the house to the ground and find façade and roof solutions with a direct relationship to the surroundings. The idea of a \”crouching building\” guides the decisions concerning volume, position, occupation, exterior outfit and façade claddings.
“Speechless!!! My baby, my dream, surpassed and achieved…”
…with tears in her eyes, on the inauguration day, these were the words of client and friend Daniela Fortunato, model and now also businesswoman.
It is words like these that motivate us and make us proud. The difficulty in creating and constructing an Architectural Work, especially in this case with an extremely low budget: €6,500 (six thousand, five hundred euros) for the design and implementation of a multi-brand men’s clothing store. Yes, just €6,500!! With the added constraint that we only had five weeks from the start of the project to the opening of the store. That’s why we nicknamed this project “LowLowCost”.
