Construction work continues on Mulberry Grove Villas, an integral part of The Forestias masterplan, which is situated on the outskirts of Bangkok. The masterplan has been designed by Foster + Partners, through its local entity F&P (Thailand) Ltd.
Inspired by traditional courtyard houses, the Mulberry Grove Villas development combines flexibility and transparency to create a residential typology that is designed for Thai society. The timber clubhouse and three of the villas are now complete. Another five residences will be finalised later this summer, marking the end of the development’s first phase.
What were the inspirations and key concepts for the development of the project?
As I am interested in Thai vernacular architecture that usually feature a wooden structure such as Thai house and barn. I would like to preserve local memory and culture by complementing each other functionally and environmentally. “Boonbun Pocket” is witness of a past era and living examples of specific constructive techniques, styles and materials from other time, especially a wooden structure.which the owner also has a passion for the reuse of wood material in building. Maintaining them is therefore essential in making local communities feel a sense of belonging and shared history, especially if the building is a meeting place in itself and a wide range of activities.
A young married couple, decided to buy an old small 20-year-old existing house with the reasonable price, located on a land where is surrounded by different houses, without a fence to separate this house from one another. Since this land literally have held many families who share the same blood for four generations, one fence is adequate and appropriate. Once the clients bought the house and came to us, they had no any issues regarding living among a cluster of unfamiliar families. Their key requirements were mainly about modernizing the house and maximizing space, including the living area, master bedroom and carpark, under the limited budget.
With the condition of the project’s site location having 20 meters width and 80 meters long which is considered as a challenging land type in the design of single detached houses in the city. One of design criteria comes from the owner’s request, he loves to write and read books and always exercises to keep himself to be in a good health. We have imagined this house which has a very private, serenity, and a lot of greenery space, and integrating with exercising units (gym, outdoor swimming pool, and running track).
Pu-Hai Office Building, a 4-story office building with gross area of 2,294 sqm., is located on New Phetchaburi Road. The site has a large amount of existing trees. The owner and us decided to keep as many trees as possible. We relocate those smaller trees aside and wait to plant them back after the construction. We keep 2 very big trees on the site where they are. We locate the building to make a way to coexist between buildings and trees.
Designing a house in the high-density area of the resort town of Pattaya takes a little bit of design techniques from here and there. On one aspect the house is expected to express the laid-back nature of the seaside town, on the other hand the surroundings are quite cramped with neighbor walls right next to ours. The architect then carefully studies massing placement and utilize the negative space as the feature element to craft the overall architectural composition.

Let’s try guessing…what do you think this place is the moment you first see it? Is it a café, studio, themed park, boutique, or something else? Welcome to ‘WONDERLAND/HOME OF FILLER’, the beauty clinic that makes you feel like being surrounded by butterflies in a whimsical dreamscape.
What do you think about or imagine when you look at the sky? Have you ever seen animal-shaped clouds, and wondered whether there would be a castle with princesses and angels sleeping inside? Is the sky where heave is? Can we jump off an airplane and step on the clouds or pour syrup on one of those fluffy masses like we would on shaved ice? Would the clouds be as fluffy as cotton candy?
Veil house is a two-storey house of modest plans with ambitious social implications. The house follows a standard L shaped plan which upon closer inspection reveals layers of complexity. Rather than arranging the house along the site’s perimeter around a central court, and shunning the surroundings, it is encapsulated with gardens, which are not hidden away but is to be shared.
427 House was built on the existing footprint of the old house which has a memorable flashback of the family. MAINCOURSE demanded respect and remembered the valuable memory by using clay cladding for the facade of the floating mass which recalled the sense of place where they used to live.
The specially mixed clay 1220 degree Celsius fired has collaborated with Mo Jirachaisakul who is an expert of clay and glass. It was designed to be used throughout the interior and exterior, from the roof to the bathroom. Therefore, it must be durable and tactile friendly at the same time.
