Villa IJsselzig in IJsselstein, The Netherlands by EVA architecten

Monday, April 23rd, 2018

Article source: EVA architecten

The villa is situated overlooking the river Hollandse IJssel. The riverside has been kept transparent to maximise the view, the dyke side has a more modest, closed character to guarantee privacy. The house refers to the neighbouring houses in the original ribbon development in terms of form but has a contemporary character with minimal details and rich colours. The copper roof and bricks have been chosen in the same shade of redbrown color to make the whole appear as one volume.

Holy Smoke in Rotterdam, The Netherlands by STUDIO MODIJEFSKY

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Article source: STUDIO MODIJEFSKY

Studio Modijefsky was invited to design the interior of Holy Smoke; a new Bar/Restaurant in a historic building on the corner of Tiendplein, Rotterdam.

Previously the building was divided into two commercial spaces; one of which was a cigar shop. As part of the recent renovation these spaces have been combined into one brighter space. With windows on all three sides, the space offers great visual connectivity with the square and the neighbourhood. Studio Modijefsky has used this quality to enhance the interior; the openness is reflected inside. The space has an orientation towards the street and towards the square; centrally positioned, the bar strengthens this concept. Around the bar, the rest of the space forms itself, consisting of an open space on the ground floor, a souterrain and an entresol area.

House with 11 views in Almere, The Netherlands by Marc Koehler Architects

Wednesday, April 4th, 2018

Article source: Marc Koehler Architects

Five small artificial islands mark the border between the suburban expansion of Almere Stad -the new neighborhood ‘Noorderplassen West’- and the nature area ‘Noorderplassen’. House with 11 views is located on one of these islands. Although the distinction between culture and nature is palpable, both are part of the same polder landscape. A landscape that had its origin on the design table and was created out of nothing.

Museum Romeins Halder in Sint-Michielsgestel, The Netherlands by RESET ARCHITECTURE

Thursday, March 29th, 2018

Article source: RESET ARCHITECTURE

Reset Architecture transforms a barn at a historical estate into a museum.

This project addresses a current theme of the changing countryside that is no longer mainly used for agriculture. Within this context of change the intention of this project originated from preservation; sharing the past of a beautiful location. The architecture of this adaptive reuse project does not react to history in a nostalgic or thematic way, it uses a more context sensitive approach. The interior has changed to a level in which the old and new merge but still are, without hierarchy, visually present. As a result the new setting evokes a self-evident presence that relates to the characteristics of the natural scenery.

Article source: Mecanoo

Zaans Medical Centre is the first lean hospital in the Netherlands. It is an efficient and compact building in which professional healthcare and a personal approach strengthen each other. Architecture, urbanism, landscape and interior are brought together in a coherent design. Clear routing, an abundance of daylight, and positive distractions contribute to an environment that does not feel like a hospital, but as a place that promotes wellbeing.
