Radical Tabula Rasa
In 2006, Atelier Kempe Thill is commissioned to design Block 10 in the Moerwijk neighborhood of The Hague with eighty-eight apartments and twenty-seven terraced houses as the result of a negotiation procedure by Vestia, the largest building corporation in the Netherlands.
Moerwijk is a typical restructuring area with residential buildings from the nineteen-sixties, as also exist in many large cities in the Netherlands. Also here, the city and housing corporations agreed on the comprehensive demolition of the entire area rather than renovation of the existing buildings.

VanBerlo has set up their second office in the former Ypenburg air base. This building with a rich history underwent a massive renovation, and VanBerlo set out to find the perfect way to mix the building’s historic style with an iconic and contemporary interior. The result is a stylish and minimalistic atmosphere, surrounded by honest materials such as concrete, plywood and felt.
The building was designed by famous Dutch architects Jan Brinkman and Leendert van der Vlugt. Built in the 1930s, Ypenburg airport was clearly ahead of its time. A minimalistic example of Modern Architecture, a style that zeroed in on light, air and space.

From the ground up the sculptural masonry transforms itself into an angular freeform with emphasized vertical elements.

Paul de Ruiter Architects designed Villa Schoorl, situated in the characteristic polders near the North Holland dunes. The fluent transition to the green polder landscape was the most essential starting point of the design. The subtly located villa is built with as many possible natural materials and sustainable techniques.
Achmea’s office building marks the entrance to Leiden town centre. Five grand natural stone stairwells and a colourful façade shape the face directed towards this country’s busiest railway line. The road runs under the building on the town side. Here, the twelve tree columns shape a unique avenue leading towards Leiden city centre. The buildings’ use of colour refers to the painting ’rhythm of a Russian dance´ of the artist Theo van Doesburg. In 1917 he founded the Dutch famous artistic movement ’The Stijl’ in this town.
