Zuiderpark-Stadswalzone in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands by Studio Leon Thier

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016

Article source: Studio Leon Thier

The project Zuiderpark-Stadswalzone in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands makes a bold statement on all fronts!

It includes: restoration of the ancient moat; an as large as possible underground parking garage underneath; its access via a spiral ramp in the centre of bastion “Baselaar”; a trail from the “Zuiderpark” and the parking garage to the city centre via a path that literally skims the water and travels through the old fortification wall; a brand new city entrance on medieval ground level. All in all, an almost impossible project that could only succeed through a thoroughly integrated approach.

Arnhem Central Transfer Terminal in The Netherlands by UNStudio

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015

Article source: UNStudio

The new €37.5m (£27.6m) Transfer Terminal at Arnhem Central Station in the Netherlands has now completed.

The station is the result of an ambitious 20-year project – masterplanned by UNStudio – to redevelop the wider station area; the largest post-war development in Arnhem. Backed by the Dutch government, this transfer hub rewrites the rulebook on train stations and is the most complex of its type in Europe. The station will become the new ‘front door’ of the city, embracing the spirit of travel, and is expected to establish Arnhem as an important node between Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The new terminal houses commercial areas, and a conference centre and provides links to the nearby office plaza, city centre, underground parking garage and the Park Sonsbeek. The area around the station will become a place in of itself, with 160,000m2 of offices, shops and a cinema complex.

Housing and health care complex Eltheto in Rijssen, The Netherlands by 2by4-architects

Friday, October 9th, 2015

Article source: 2by4-architects

In the small town of Rijssen 2by4-architects designed the new healthcare and housing complex ‘Eltheto’ for elderly people. Until recently elderly people were seen as a group that functions outside of modern society and are only in need of care. The contemporary healthcare centers and housing for elderly people are still designed according to his idea. Over the past decennia this resulted in a range of introvert buildings where the main focus is healthcare instead of the quality of life itself.
