Article source: Mr. Important Design COMPANY INTRODUCTION: Mister Important Design is an interior design firm that brings an ebullient perspective to interiors. Specializing in hotels, nightclubs, restaurants, bars and lounges, Mister Important Design works closely with clients to achieve interiors that exceed expectations. Exuberant interors that are designed to be remembered and talked about.
An enthusiastic embrace of many time periods, styles, intents, and aesthetics are sampled to create interiors the way hip-hop artists sample to create new musice. Everything is available and usable, and the sparks fly best when kitsch and glamour, new and old, high low all rub up against each other. Colllaboration with emerging designers and artists world-wide keeps the work fresh and suprising. Use of cutting edge technologies in lighting and materials coupled with a deep background in traditional furniture and décor help produce the unexpected thrill of these spaces. Founded in 2005 by Charles Doell, the interiors of Mister Important Design have been widely featured in the international design press. Wallpaper Magazine said it best- Charles Doell is a “design whiz-kid”. PROJECT FEATURE: Alegra is a restaurant, lounge and bar in the heart of Dubai within the shadow of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. The space is dominated by a high-resolution LED screen mounted within a long broken crease in the ceiling plane. This crease is repeated exponentially utilizing trapezoidal “faceted” ceiling and wall planes of beveled black glass. Each of these panels is backlit to form an energetic lightscape that unites the room. The warm tones of the gold foil embossed leather and the deeply tufted dining ottomans lend a rich and sensual comfort to the interior. In counterpoint to the luxe upholstery are the glinty reflections that ricochet and sparkle around the room bouncing from one plane of black glass to another. The linear led chandeliers by Il Pezzo Mancante further reinforce the sparkle of the room. Their 20 foot long ribbon of golden graffiti and crystal candles provides a sparkling canopy to the main bar. Later in the night Dj’s and Vj’s sweep the room up into a tempest of sound and visuals that are without parallel. The LED ceiling bursts into a fiery life that is reflected throughout the space. It’s a visceral visual experience, infectious, brilliant and nearly overwhelming. Alegras food features forward leaning molecular techniques coupled with rich flavors and textures. Like the interior, it’s a combination that creates an exciting yet comforting dining experience. Mixing tradition and ingenuity in true Spanish style, offering a wide selection of small plates for sharing.
