Renfe recognised the need to move the current corporate restaurant, situated above the platforms on Avda. Ciudad de Barcelona, to a new location on platform 6. The objective was updated, functional and representative premises that service the staff of the office buildings situated on these platforms in a distinctive location.

This project proposes a representative two-storey space, which is versatile and flexible, where several services and zones can coexist. This would offer multiple possibilities, with distinguishable areas (café, self-service restaurant and à-la-carte dining room). The proposal highlights the special qualities of the original platform (container). We looked at altering the possibilities of this container to grant a continuous and united interpretation of the space.

We inserted a wooden box as a kind of surrounding within the original container. This arranges, distributes and qualifies the resulting space. We introduced a stainless steel antique locomotive inside the box, which is the bar self-service and which houses the à la carte dining room above it. This increases the use of the volume of space. On the other side of this antique locomotive, the space retains all of its height to ensure that it is a more representative area. Our proposal seeks to develop what is already there, nothing more. It is a basic operation.
