Article source: Michaelis Boyd Pots Pans & Boards is a restaurant concept from British Michelin Star chef Tom Aikens, in which sharing dishes is the key element in creating a relaxed, family atmosphere. Being served in an assortment pots, pans and boards, as well as more traditional plates, it will allow guests to share the dishes openly with each other. The concept is developed around a casual and comfortable dinner at home, which is reflected in the menu, and had a strong influence on the interior design of the restaurant.
The walls and floor are covered with a combination of several different types of reclaimed wood and encaustic tiles, and the majority of furniture is reclaimed with a mix of wood textures and finishes. There are some contemporary items introduced, in some tables and chairs, which differentiate themselves from the others but complement in style. The banquette seating with metal display shelves is located in the centre of the restaurant as an important feature element. Various old objects are on display throughout the restaurant on walls and shelves, including antique kitchen knives, cleavers, utensils and glass storage jars to name a few. Their rustic but united characters contribute to creating a relaxed, well used and much loved kitchen look, which the food concept was based on. There are two front entrances to the restaurant, and copper chandeliers are suspended near both entrance lobbies, which signify what the restaurant is about. The pots wall near the entrance is also the showpiece representing the restaurant concept in a simple but intriguing manner. The open kitchen exposes the theatrical kitchen activities, with stools around the kitchen counter, providing first hand experience of the exciting activities beyond the counter into the kitchen.
