Center For People With Mental Illness “Intras” in Valladolid, Spain by amas4arquitecturaMarch 19th, 2019 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: amas4arquitectura This Daycare Center for people with mental illness and Central headquarters for INTRAS Foundation is the first phase of a whole complex concerning also other health services (a Residential Centre, a Psycho-rehabilitation Centre and a Labour Rehabilitation Centre) and social services (Supervised Flats, Labour Workshops) that will stand for Research and Treatment in Mental Health aims to improve the quality of life of people suffering from mental disorders and the elderly, as well as their social integration.
In this first step, the main programmatic purpose to be achieved has been how to involve the foundation headquarter´s workers in the Daycare everyday routine. The answer to this challenge is a half-buried three level building with two different entries connected by playful and “crazy” stair. Its cantilevered volumes and fragmented skin are the link between the institution and the residential neighborhood that surround the building and become a new reference in this urban context. Showing an opened, attractive and kind image, the building lets its users and neighbours come closer, according to INTRAS integration guidelines: the foyer turns to be a small café, the multipurpose hall turns to be an opened space kitchen opened to everyone that wants to register in its cooking courses.
