Article source: Hyper-Haus Let’s try guessing…what do you think this place is the moment you first see it? Is it a café, studio, themed park, boutique, or something else? Welcome to ‘WONDERLAND/HOME OF FILLER’, the beauty clinic that makes you feel like being surrounded by butterflies in a whimsical dreamscape. What do you think about or imagine when you look at the sky? Have you ever seen animal-shaped clouds, and wondered whether there would be a castle with princesses and angels sleeping inside? Is the sky where heave is? Can we jump off an airplane and step on the clouds or pour syrup on one of those fluffy masses like we would on shaved ice? Would the clouds be as fluffy as cotton candy?
Everyone has a right to dream and imagine. A dream town floating in and above the clouds in your imagination is made into reality, here. If you want to look good, in your very own way, be the best version of yourself, this clinic is that place in the cloud you may once dream of; the place that makes your wishes, dreams, and imagination come true. Here, the doctor is your artist, and the clinic is the ‘gallery’ where works of art are attentively crafted in the form of humans’ beautiful facial features. The renovation of the three-unit, three-story-high 30-year old shophouses into a beauty clinic, DOCTOR MEK CLINIC, takes advantage of the site’s ideal location on the side of Bantatthong main road in inner-city Bangkok. Home to rows of decades-old commercial shophohouses, the neighborhood has been a vibrant food scene with long-standing restaurants that welcome university students, office workers as well as mushrooming content creators who pay their visits at the area’s local establishments. The ‘Wonderland’s gallery’ design concept is a fun interpretation of ‘cloud,’ playing with the name of ‘DOCTOR MEK CLINIC’ (mek is Thai word for cloud). The round, curved and freeform shapes bear no boundaries and limits. Meanwhile, the shape of a cloud is used as the project’s main logo, symbolizing freedom. Forget the plain white space because this place is so much more than that. Situated right next to the main road, the design aims to attract the attention of the passerby driving past the site within a matter of seconds. Opening the door and entering the first zone, one is greeted with the ‘Welcome Area’ with the floor-to-ceiling-high colorful pixel wall. The color transition is created out of an intricate arrangement of pixelated forms, conveying the attention to details, like the doctor’s pore-level precision with each injection made; a zoom-in into the fine pixelated details of human’s delicate skin. The pixels also convey each individual’s uniqueness, for each color holds its own importance and beauty. In this waiting zone, the clients are offered the ‘waiting drink & welcome set,’ which includes the ‘Blue Glitter’ the magical-looking but deliciously drinkable beverage and the butter cookie specially made for the clinic. While enjoying the drink and cookie, visitors can take in the surrounding decoration of the Tropical Oasis Garden with a wide variety of flowers of incredible colors. To the right of the waiting zone is the photo zone with high-quality lighting designed for Dr. Mek and all the clinic’s important guests to take the perfect, ready-to-share photos. On the way to the treatment room, one will encounter the White Blue Graphic Catwalk, a walkway decorated with a graphic pattern with detail of blue and white geometric forms. The space serves as the super-exclusive photo corner reserved only for authorized individuals. The design considers the treatment rooms as one of the top priorities. Each room is given its own vibe, offering clients new experiences on each visit. The diversity of design brings a sense of discovery, like finding an Easter Egg; a wonderful surprise in each of the curated spaces. The five treatment rooms of the clinic are: Treatment Room 1, The Secret Rocket, takes users into the vast and distant void. The floor and ceiling are decorated with the pattern of geometrical forms and lines that clearly takes inspiration from the 1970s aesthetics. The disco/retro inspired pattern bears a nice contrast to the freeform and curved lines on the ceiling, inspired by a cockpit of a spacecraft in sci-fi movies, journeying into the vast infinite universe. One of the walls is hidden behind the curtain, which opens into the transparent glass panels that grant visual access into the room when the treatment is intended to be demonstrated to other guests waiting in the reception area as well as through a live streaming session via the clinic’s Facebook page. The space is designed to be both a workspace and a stage for the doctor’s live performances. Treatment Room 2’s ‘keep calm and warm beige’ concept gives the feel of an autumn meadow. The visually soothing color tones welcome clients of all ages and genders with the different shades of beige, fusing and blending inside the room. The tactility of the floor tiles’ low-relief texture resembles the feeling of being given Thai foot massage. The walls are superimposed with a curved layer, complemented with an installation of flowers, which move and flow when touched by the wind. Treatment Room 3 is called ‘Green Therapy.’ The light mint color, one of the shades of clouds, intends to make clients experience the kind of relaxation that is akin to a spa treatment. The small curves of the undulating pattern cover all the walls while the lamps create an ambiance that keeps the entire space perfectly and stylishly neutral. Room 4 or Sweet Baby Pink is designed to embrace femininity. The cotton candy pink and the peacock graphic on the wall convey grace and delicateness. To the right situated a dressing room with a glass wall covered with film whose colorful, rainbow gradient represents diversity, offering both the aesthetic and functional merits for its ability to provide users the needed privacy. Room 5 or the ‘Primary Color Room,’ like its name suggests, uses the colors ‘red, yellow and blue’ for their characteristics as the genesis of endless combinations of colors, and how they are closely associated with each other despite the stark contrast. The dot line plane graphic pattern covers the entire surface of the staircase. Extra attention is paid to the decoration of the stairs. Why? Look at pictures shared in people’s social media these days. A staircase isn’t just a component where people walk past. In many significant places and buildings around the world, stairs are where people like to take pictures with; a space that connects different floors; a transition that prepares users for entering a new realm, existing as a part of the entire spatial relationship. DOCTOR MEK CLINIC will have you rethink where you will spend your time beautifying and improving yourself. In addition to the superlative consultation and services by some of the country’s leading specialized medical practitioners, this is the place where you can enjoy attentively curated spatial experiences with plenty of corners to take photos and share with friends and followers.
