Elementary School Unterdorf in Höchst, Germany by Dietrich | Untertrifaller Architects ZT GmbH

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018

Article source: Dietrich | Untertrifaller Architects ZT GmbH

The Unterdorf elementary school in Höchst is a radical, uncompromising example of a modern cluster school. In a plain, elongated, ground-level wooden building, four identical clusters are placed on the east side. The special education classes and the admin area are located on the west side, connected with the gym by a spacious hall. The clusters comprise two classrooms, an open group area and a relaxation room as well as toilets and wardrobes around a top-lighted lounge with a raised roof. A direct exit into a private garden and the outdoor classroom area includes the exterior space and enables short access routes.

Akademeia High School in Warsaw, Poland by medusa group

Thursday, April 12th, 2018

Article source: medusa group

Changes in the public education system in Poland have not kept up with the modern changes in the lives and activities of young people. Generation of the so-called millenials, which entered the high school age, forced a thorough reformulation of the approach to education. It also forced a review of the principles of shaping school buildings. The failure of the public sector began to use the private sector, producing a product that meets the requirements of education for young people.

Streetlight Tagpuro in Tacloban, Philippines by Eriksson Furunes Architecture, Leandro V. Locsin Partners & Boase

Sunday, April 1st, 2018

Article source: v2com

With the increase of natural and man-made disasters around the globe, it becomes increasingly important to understand how architects, and architecture, can contribute to post-disaster reconstruction efforts. While there is an argument that architects are the least people needed in this scenario, a collaborative process of planning, designing and building can enable those affected by the disaster to have a say in the processes that eventually affect them. Streetlight Tagpuro is a collaborative design and build process that began 3 years before the strongest typhoon to ever hit land devastated Tacloban city in the Philippines, and the 3 years of reconstruction that followed.
