FUX – Supervised Group Housing in Vienna, Austria by trans_city ZT GmbH

Tuesday, February 19th, 2019

Article source: trans_city ZT GmbH

A house for collective living, built at the intersection of old and new Vienna. The eight units for supervised housing for adolescents and young men are integrated in to a structure that bridges between the street and the courtyard of a new-built housing estate. The scale, massing and materiality allows the building to harmonize with its village-like neighbors in the Fuchsröhrenstraße, yet FUX is able to hold its own against the large housing estates sprouting up on all sides.

La Vela in Thailand by Time Architecture Co., Ltd.

Tuesday, February 12th, 2019

Article source: Time Architecture Co., Ltd.

Project La Vela is a new development with 181 guest rooms,2 restaurants, a spa, a beach club and a large swimming pool.  What is unique about the project is its unusual land site which appears to be two large separated areas joined by a 10-meter wide walkway. The project is located on an 8th century trading route, a fact which inspired the development’s creative layout.

The project architect chose a triangular-shaped configuration where the lines connecting the three vertices represent strength and connectivity and suggest the sightings of stars which travelers used as reference when traveling at night. Such sight delineations are useful to sense the ‘space’ and ‘place’ of vast areas.  Moreover, when multiple triangular shapes are layered over one another, they accentuate a sense of greater connectivity between different areas and expose spaces that were once hidden from view.

Nodelic in Batumi, Georgia by STIPFOLD

Tuesday, February 5th, 2019

Article source: STIPFOLD

This modern apartment building resides in an old part of Batumi. Unobtrusive design and brick exterior is comfortably integrated into the environment and a context of  the surrounding historic buildings. A simplistic structure of the first six floors is designed with acknowledgment of an overall visual character of this part of the town. However, old material is used in a modern way and in accordance with the latest technics, creating patterns and variations.

The uppermost three floors, which contain the penthouses, have a contrasting and bolder structure and are encrusted with the rusted metal plates. The large green terraces, which are assigned to the penthouses, are located on a rooftop.

The Wave in Vejle in Denmark by Henning Larsen Architects

Tuesday, February 5th, 2019

Article source: Henning Larsen Architects

Following an eleven-year construction period interrupted by the global financial crisis, Henning Larsen’s The Wave apartment building in Vejle, Denmark has finally reached completion.

Construction on the 14,000 m2 complex, consisting of 100 apartments, began in 2006, following an architectural vision of five consecutive wave-shaped towers lining the water along Vejle Fjord. However, the global recession of 2008 interrupted construction after the completion of only two towers. They stood unaccompanied along the waterfront, the first chapters in an unfinished story.
