Ambient Tower Dubai- Thyssenkrupp by ZERAFA ARCHITECTURE STUDIO

Friday, January 20th, 2017

Article source: ZERAFA ARCHITECTURE STUDIO

Za’abeel Park has been designed to showcase Dubai’s status as a regional center for the development of high-technology and IT industries through a unique mix of educational and recreational facilities. The development of these facilities within a large scale garden-park setting has created a multi-faceted urban space within the city center for both residents and visitors alike. This urban idea is fundamental to the “new face of Dubai” and the future development of the city within an international context. Within this spirit, the proposed “Emblem” tower for Za’abeel Park should be expressive of the confluence of these regional ideas, energy, and culture which define the modern city with an underlying emotional reference to a more universal iconography.

Stockholm Central Station in Sweden by Tengbom Architects

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

Article source: Tengbom Architects

250,000 people pass through Stockholm’s central station on a daily basis. If you were one of them, you would not have missed all the development that has been going on here between 2008-2014 – and a station that has been fully functional the entire time.

In 2008, we were asked by Jernhusen to modernize and develop large parts of Stockholm’s Central station – one of Sweden’s most important crossroads – and make it possible for the station to manage the challenges of both today and tomorrow. Not least the constantly increasing number of travellers. Due to the requirement for many separate improvements, we were given the opportunity to develop a thorough concept for the development.

”Our vision was to improve the experience of the visitors through modernization and design that exceeded their expectations and at the same time preserve and highlight the fine qualities of the old building”, says Mark Humphreys, chief architect.

BRIC Phase One in San Diego, California by John Portman & Associates

Sunday, December 25th, 2016

Article source: John Portman & Associates

BRIC Phase One is a dual-branded Marriott with a 253-key select service Springhill Suites hotel and a 147-key extended stay Residence Inn hotel, leased retail areas for shops and restaurants and above-grade structured parking. The complex’s name, BRIC, is in reference to the site’s location at BRoadway and PacifIC. With the inclusion of publicly-accessible shops, restaurants and terraces at various levels along the west side of the building facing a public park, the project extends the public realm vertically, allowing for great views of the San Diego Bay and the events that occur along the waterfront. As a nod to the history of the site as the former location of Lane Field ballpark, these retail and terrace spaces step back from the park in such a way as to recall the bleachers of old.

Jil Sander New Store in Berlin, Germany by Studio Andrea Tognon Architecture

Friday, December 23rd, 2016

Article source: Studio Andrea Tognon Architecture

As if to honour its German roots, high-end fashion brand Jil Sander introduced it’s new retail design at the flagship store on the swanky Kurfürstendamm thoroughfare in Berlin. Occupying a ground floor unit of a landmark structure built in 1900 with an ornate art nouveau façade, the new aesthetic, created by Milan-based practice Andrea Tognan Architecture, is almost defiantly modern and understated, and clearly extrapolates Jil Sander‘s clean designs. Geometrical forms of the square and the rectangle largely define the premises, along with more fluent shapes that convey a zen-like sense of spatial harmony, and yet provide functionality at the same time.
