Like many other cities in China, Hefei is undergoing a rapid transformation. The original urban fabric was torn apart and discarded, replaced by giant blocks of anonymous structures and forms. The present Hefei is just a fleeting moment on its relentless march toward the future. So, we call it a “Momentary City”.

The project of Gavà is a block of social housing, developed by Aram Foundation. Since the project’s inception in 2009 until the completion of the work in 2013, public andbank’s helps have suffered such deep changes that have destabilized, mainly to citizens in need of affordable housing, and also, to foundations or companies that promote this type of activity.
This school façade project came to us at a stage when the construction of the 2 academic blocks was already underway. The blocks were rather generic, with 6 floors of classrooms, labs, and other facilities arranged towards the periphery around matching central courtyards. Our brief was to work within these existing parameters to make a school. So we developed a design program in terms of circulation, movement, ventilation, classrooms and other concerns.”
This project is a series of commissioned beach-side park restroom pavilions. Each of these pavilions share a common design signature. The design team used an abstract version of sea-oats, vegetation synonymous with the gulf beaches of Sarasota, to create a continuous theme in the façade. The abstract use of ‘sea-oats’ as a screen element was used to unite the ramp with the building rather than having the ramp appear to be an appendage to the design. The wood ramp system is suspended from the cast-in-place concrete roof slab with stainless steel rods. As one ascends the ramp, the natural preserve encloses the building volumes which are oriented to provide enhanced views of the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay.
Located at the entrance of the industrial wasteland of the former VAW aluminum plants FORMSTELLE, Kantine and NETZWERK are creating an interdisciplinary, campus called NETWORK/NETZWERK – thus providing‚ evidence of a successful structural transformation from heavy industry towards the use by architects, engineers and designers. The floating, single-storey pavilion, placed under huge ancient trees, shows an altered handling of the material aluminum in an industrial region undergoing transition.
Located in the urban outskirts of Munich, the detached single-family house B built in timber frame construction was completed after only six months of construction. On the small plot the maximal possible cubature and the existing parameters have been used in an optimal way. The building follows line of the houses in the street and thus continues the urban edge along the link road. The front garden area next to the street is thereby supported and the roof orientation of the surrounding buildings continued.
The project main idea lay on the sun interaction with a domo located in New Scotland, Canada.
The first step was to find out how the building reacts to sun light in different day key moments all along the year. The use of a 3d software allows me to figure out which areas would be exposed to sun light and which ones would be into shadow. At that point, I found an area that would be always exposed to light.
The McIlwrick Street Residences are a three-townhouse development located on a single residential block in Windsor. Like an old European village, the development is a small cluster of buildings you can see through and walk between such that the significant addition feels as though it could have always been there.
