ТАЮ Ice Cream Shop in Odesa, Ukraine by Sivak+Partners Studio

Article source: Sivak+Partners Studio

We barely had time to take a picture before February 24 and the war in Ukraine came.

The gelateria had been open in Odessa for a couple of weeks and it was closed and the windows were boarded up. We didn’t know for a long time if it would ever reopen.

“ТАЮ” translates from Ukrainian as “I’m melting,” and the menu only includes ice cream and juices.

We were looking for a simple solution, simple materials, and one clear idea that would create and unite the whole interior.

Beiramar House in Portugal by Merooficina

August 6th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Merooficina

Casa da beiramar is located in one of Aveiro’s ancient fishermen neighborhoods, beira-mar, a downtown landscape of long and narrow old fishermen houses built on adobe, coated by colorful tiles of the local industry and filled with green ceramic flowerpots.

This part of the city has been witnessing an interesting fusion between the old dwellers and the recent inhabitants. One of the new inhabitants pretended to restore this ancient adobe house, foreseeing an evolutive program: on an initial phase, serve as two apartments and then as a house, with or without an independent office, on a near future.

Punta Colorada III Shelter in Uruguay by TATÚ Arquitectura

August 5th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: TATÚ Arquitectura

The land is located in an area of maritime forest near the first stretch of oceanic beach in Uruguay. This presented a diversity of native species living together in a dense and difficult-to-access ecosystem with the presence of several specimens of eucalyptus, coronilla and aruera, among other species that they wanted to preserve to build their own narrative between the future architecture project and its immediate landscape. At the same time, the topography of the land presented a pronounced depression towards the rear and lateral zone, product of the presence of two small ravines that collect the runoff of natural water from the area and channel it towards the sea.

The BungaLOW in Uttar Pradesh, India by Anagram Architects

August 5th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Anagram Architects

With frugal beginnings, the bungalow residential typology’s various evolutions reached their post-colonial zenith of opulence, sub-urbanism and privilege in the late 1990’s. Subsequently, enhanced pressures on urban land and liberalised real-estate market forces reduced the ubiquity of the large land parcels required for bungalows (typically upwards of 4000 sqm). That scarcity, however, continues to substantially elevate the aspirational desire to live in one. This project interrogates the Delhi bungalow typology on a substantially smaller plot.

Commercial building in Kaunas, Lithuania by Architectural Bureau G.Natkevicius & Partners

August 1st, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Architectural Bureau G.Natkevicius & Partners

The slope of the plot, also the fact that the location of the plot is half-forest, half-street, while the commercial space requires parking places did not allow to design a standard building. Due to the location, size and relief of the plot, unusual solution of the architectural composition was chosen.

The building of modern minimalism is raised from the ground by one floor and looks as placed on thin columns. This allowed to install parking spaces on the ground floor level under the building along with storage facilities and a lobby. The architects managed to make purposeful use of the space without moving the building away from the street.
