Daruma International Nursery in Kanagawa, Japan by Moriyuki Ochiai ArchitectsJuly 27th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Moriyuki Ochiai Architects We performed the design for a nursery school. Deliverables included an environment suitable to the school’s educational policy, namely, bringing up children both physically and mentally that can think, learn and act on their own initiative. Thus, we set out to create a space that would promote a variety of uses and encourage children to come up with their own games as they would do in nature by recreating geographical features inspired by nature’s most beautiful assets; its colors and lakes.

Article source: Clavel Arquitectos As if a Cordoban flora oasis was, the ME TÓ DI CA clinic can be spotted from the end of two residential buildings avenues, like a forest of green reflections and warm light playing with pedestrians at the street level. The façade is created with aluminium slats that form the abstract image of a Cordoban forest. This is achieved thanks to the treatment of every 20 x 40 mm slat’s edges, which makes them unique. Facing the street (20 mm exterior edge), slats are finished with green mirror material that, on the one hand, reflect cars and pedestrians passing through and the nearby trees’ leaves waving alongside the wind and, on the other hand, they dye the adjacent street pavement green as a result of reflecting the sunlight. Perpendicularly to the street (40 mm lateral edges), on their both sides, slats are finished with a printed vinyl forming the figurative image of a Cordoban forest in wide format.
FRANCA HOUSE in Garopaba, Brazil by TAGIR FATTORI ARQUITETURA – TFAJuly 24th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: TAGIR FATTORI ARQUITETURA – TFA The land for the single-family building is located on Praia da Gamboa (Garopaba, Santa Catarina, Brazil), next to a conservation area, where the view of the sea and nature will always be predominant. The Mares de Garopaba district is a calm destination full of natural landscapes, for residents and occasional tourists. The name of the house came from the possibility of seeing North Atlantic Right Whales at certain times of the year. That’s why the terrace faces the sea and the morning sun, providing the chance to see them during your passage and stay on the Gamboa coast.

Article source: dkarchitekti This dynamically shaped, on all sides barely open crystal reveals the indoor world of a swimming hall on its south side. The outstanding overhang of the sloping roof surface with a sharp scarf of side façades enables two very different worlds to meet: one of a minimalistically dressed blue swimmer practising water sports in a wood-panelled space, and one of a random passerby wrapped in warm winter clothing. The tension of contrast between these two worlds is reflected in the rippling glass façade facing the public space that adjoins the neighbouring municipal office buildings. Through this mutual interaction revealing the secret of movement, local residents are invited to spend their leisure time actively engaging in physical activities.

Article source: SpaceInvader The UK’s leading appliance care specialist Domestic & General was happy with the location of its existing Wimbledon head offices – in one of London’s leafiest outlying areas, conveniently close to the railway and tube station – but when the building’s lease renewal coincided with Covid-19 and lockdown, the opportunity arose for a full review of the company’s future workplace needs. Domestic & General recognised this might be a moment for wholesale change – but only if their team were likely to share in and feel ownership of that future vision.

Article source: Architects Mosher Drew Traditional K-12 education buildings have created an entourage of partitioned structures promoting a single lecturer instruction style, and resulting in mostly isolated classrooms. Current teaching pedagogy has changed the architectural dynamic to reinforce information distribution, team collaboration, and ‘learn by doing.’ Teachers have assumed a role of ‘advisor’ or ‘guide’ to facilitate students’ efforts to research information and create their own knowledge base. A new classroom model should respond by facilitating creative, critical-thinking and communication skills enhanced by a group dynamic. Therefore, we believe the built environment must respond directly to the need for diversity and the collaborative spirit of education through design for flexibility, mobility, and dynamic learning.

Coral Pavilion in Lagos, Nigeria by cmdesign atelierJuly 21st, 2022 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: cmdesign atelier This striking, minimal beach pavilion was designed to have a fully indoor/outdoor feel, with the comfort of a living room in a space that is largely open with dramatic views and cooling airflow. It is conceived as a space to gather away from the frenetic energy of Lagos, as it is located on a peninsula accessible only by boat from the core of the city, the clean-lined, elegant space has the feeling being nestled on a remote, natural island yet is still within city limits, serving as a nearby rural outpost for easy day trips.
