Bunurong Memorial Park in Bangholme, Australia by BVN

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017

Article source: BVN

Bunurong Memorial Park aims to be a leader in providing memorable settings for a wide range of celebratory, reflective and commemorative events and a valuable community asset.

Working with Aspect Studios, BVN designed a set of distinctive gardens arranged as a connected suite of intimate and public spaces bound by ‘quiet’ buildings with transparent portals that open directly to the garden setting. This series of garden vistas and rooms are in turn linked to the existing lake, now reimagined as the ‘heart’ of a broader network that will include future stages. The widest possible range of reflective and celebratory events, are supported through buildings that include chapels, function rooms, café, florist and service centre. A particularly characteristic part is the pedestrian commemoration bridge which connects the central gardens to the curvilinear outdoor chapel which opens directly to the lake.

Paddington Terrace House in Sydney, Australia by Luigi Rosselli Pty Ltd – Architects

Friday, April 28th, 2017

Article source: Luigi Rosselli Pty Ltd – Architects

A designer would find oneself dancing to a familiar tune when approached to upgrade this terrace house in Paddington, a suburb east of Sydney City. Faced with the age old problems presented by much loved terrace housing – damp, dark and introverted – we sought to create a luminous space to give a full family a much needed dose of vitamin D. Introducing some fluid lines with a light filled stairwell at the centre and a sun drenched kitchen and living at the rear, the new configuration of old and new proves an enriching experience. Accustomed to muted tones, and a subtle palette, a much needed spring was put in our step by the bold use of colours, delphinium blues, cadmium yellows, beautiful artworks, exotic patterns and rich textures carefully selected by the interior designer in residence, Heidi Correa. The lush landscaping at the rear provides a verdant backdrop to family life. The final result knocked even us off our feet.

The Birdcage Lift Enquiry in New South Wales, Australia by Luigi Rosselli Pty Ltd – Architects

Friday, April 28th, 2017

Article source: Luigi Rosselli Pty Ltd – Architects

It began with a simple enquiry. “Can we have a bird cage lift?” And so with this addition at its core, a once unexceptional dwelling on Sydney Harbour was transformed into an extraordinary waterfront townhouse. By reconfiguring the house around a revived grand stair with the new bird cage lift at its centre, accessibility, comfort, elegance and good living across five stories was made possible.

Sydney Park Water Re-Use Project in Sydney, Australia by Turf Design Studio

Thursday, April 27th, 2017

Article source: v2com

Much has been achieved over the past two decades in transforming the Sydney Park site from its industrial and landfill legacy, into 44 hectares of parkland and a vital asset for the growing communities of Sydney’s south east.

The project is part of City of Sydney’s Decentralised Water Master Plan (2012-2030), specifically focused on reducing the City’s potable water demand by 10% before 2030. It is the City’s largest water harvesting project to date, built in partnership with the Australian Government and seizing a once in a lifetime opportunity to use what was essentially an infrastructure project to breathe new life into the park – as a vibrant recreation and environmental asset for Sydney.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Corporate Offices in Victoria, Australia by k20 Architecture

Thursday, April 13th, 2017

Article source: k20 Architecture

Located in the rural setting of Nhill, Victoria, Hindmarsh Shire Council Corporate Offices is a technologically advanced Corporate Civic and Administration Centre with Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) principles at the core of the building’s design intent.

Completed in 2014 the precinct re-uses the existing 1960’s building and encapsulates it within its new contemporary built form. The building was inspired by the town’s identity as a hub of wheat production with steel storage silos and agricultural sheds dotting the landscape. The centre’s form and restrained material palette of timber, steel and glass gives subtle references to the local agricultural context; utilising the craftsmanship of the folded metal inherent in the silos in the form of locally sourced steel and zinc finishes along the building’s exterior.

Irwin in Fremantle, Australia by MSG Architecture

Sunday, April 2nd, 2017

Article source: MSG Architecture

Irwin is a white box plugged in to an existing East Fremantle home.

The aim was to separate a breakout area and master bedroom to allow more room for kids and living in the existing house.

Simple materials, strategic windows and a transition space between old and new make this little add on perform well beyond it’s modest footprint.

St Joseph in Melbourne, Australia by KUD – Kavellaris Urban Design

Saturday, April 1st, 2017

Article source: KUD – Kavellaris Urban Design

The St. Joseph project is a luxury residential development situated in Abbottsford, Victoria. Due to its historical significance the site has become part of the cultural landscape within the area, demanding a highly responsive and respectful design outcome. Our primary objective was to incorporate the critical components of school’s culture and history as a celebration and balance of the past and the future – creating ‘future heritage’ for the next generation. We were interested in exploring ways to interpret and represent the critical ‘story’ that created the culture and history of St Joseph’s Technical School. The design intent was to recreate multiple simultaneous layers of history within the articulated screens that wrap around the street frontage facades. The faceted panels create a “Lenticular Image”; an optical phenomenon whereby singular segments of an image converge at specific points of view to recreate the completed image.
