Bremer Punkt in Germany by LIN

February 28th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: LIN

Like many German cities, Bremen is confronted with an increasing housing shortage and a growing demand for affordable housing.

In response to this, the largest Bremen Housing Association, GEWOBA, has prudently taken on a supplementary extension to their existing 45,000 plus housing stock. In 2011, within the framework of the competition “ungewöhnlich Wohnen” (unusual living), five exemplary lots from a postwar housing area were chosen to investigate the adaptability of the area. The proposals considered contemporary demands for affordable and flexible housing that could offer manifold inhabitant configurations. These housing areas in the Gartendstadt Süd of Neustadt Bremen, offer generous green open areas formed by homogenous four-storey housing blocks.

Ensae Paristech Campus Paris-Saclay in France by CAB ARCHITECTES (CALORI AZIMI BOTINEAU)

Article source: CAB ARCHITECTES (CALORI AZIMI BOTINEAU)

When we discovered the immense sky and the plateau devoid of physical constraints we sought to capture the landscape by a simple form and by an abstract architectural language.

The proximity of the site to the edge of the woodland led us intuitively to the primary material as it seemed necessary in this country-side site to place the building lightly on the ground. To achieve this we chose to define the project by a steel exoskeleton.

The project involved the renovation of an 80s’ apartment at the edge of the historical centre of Padua.

The interior space has been extensively re-conceived through essential design interventions and the employment of minimal materials. This was accomplished by retaining fragments of the original structure with the addition of contemporary elements.

The Coco Retro bistro brings French flair to Royal Tunbridge Wells, a large affluent town in Kent, just outside London.

The brief for the design studio 32mq was to provide three different inspiring dining areas for three different dining experiences. The ground floor is an informal and relaxed brasserie; the first floor is an elegant intimate and stylish restaurant and the lower floor is a wine cellar (under development) dedicated to the wine collection of the owner.

Real Hacienda III Cañada in Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico by Sobrado + Ugalde Arquitectos

The original California style house was located on a 2,625 sq m lot with 1,285 sq m constructed. After going over all the spaces we decided that for the intervention it was necessary to demolish the south area of the original construction, a large volume blocking all the light.

Escola Britânica de Artes Criativas in São Paulo, Brazil by FORM bureau

February 27th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: FORM bureau

The Escola Britânica de Artes Criativas is located within a building designed by Isay Weinfeld in the bohemian district of Vila Madalena in Sao Paulo.

The main idea was to create a school with a community spirit, a space which the students would consider their own and be inspired to create in. We wanted to surprise them, to immerse them in an interesting environment, but to leave some spaces as a blank canvas.

From the Architects: Children from centuries in the past until now were born and raised in the countryside without many amenities and little money. These are now successful city dwellers. They are now modern but have not forgotten the images and feeling of cement rooves, the low brick walls, and the bamboo that permeates the village.

Apartment E&E in Vienna, Austria by destilat ARCHITECTURE+DESIGN

February 27th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: destilat ARCHITECTURE+DESIGN

The “Apartment E&E is not just your usual rehabilitation of a classic Viennese apartment in an old building but also a statement for sustainability in interior design.

The central theme was to unite the client’s quite strong stance on anti-consumerism with high aesthetic demands for a sound overall concept.
