Located next to a canal and a major road, the Yidian project site has all the ingredients for a brilliant project with a strong identity. Here, nature will be able to reclaim its rightful place in the heart of the city. The buildings have been positioned to open the site up to the city, making this project a lively and welcoming space.

Each building is differently shaped, reflecting its location on the site and in the city. Yet they are consistent with one another and form a harmonious ensemble. The buildings’ identity is defined by an interplay of folds and cuts, which give a variety of perspectives, views, light and heights.

We have developed an urban topography concept to create an innovative “built landscape” effect, where architecture and nature blend, bringing a sort of sensuality to the city. The office foundation is like a landscape.

The building façades are covered in vertical blades which protect the structures from the heat of the powerful Shanghai sun. These elements offer a dual materiality: one side is clad with green are blue ceramic (a traditional Chinese material based on ancestral techniques), the other with lacquered aluminium. This dual interplay of colours and materials creates a sense of movement, a constantly renewed vision of the project within the city.
