Article source: MVRDV

MVRDV has completed construction of a new wholesale market for fruit and vegetables in Tainan. Already dubbed by Taiwan’s United Daily News as “the most beautiful fruit and vegetable market in Taiwan”, the open-air market not only serves as an important hub for Tainan’s food supply chain, but also as a destination for meeting, socialising, and taking in views of the surrounding landscape from the building’s accessible roof, thus promoting tourism in the region. In the future, the roof can be further developed, with the possibility to grow fruit and vegetables on top of the structure.

Balcony House in Medellín, Colombia by Bassico Arquitectos

March 12th, 2023 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Bassico Arquitectos

The house is projected as a device to observe and contemplate the valley from the eastern mountain. A volume that clings to it, penetrates and flies at the same time.

Two heavy floor slabs frame the horizon of the mountainous landscape. They organize and contain on the periphery the main spaces of the house and turn its gaze to the mountains. Courtyards of different proportions perforate them to generate accesses, lighting and ventilation for secondary spaces.

The house is an extensive balcony to always be related to the valley, the mountains, the sunsets, the night, the distant city, the changing landscape.

Asahigaoka house in Aichi, Japan by Tatsuya Kawamoto + Associates

March 12th, 2023 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Tatsuya Kawamoto + Associates

With that one word from the client, the story for the construction to be built here was decided, but in order to realize this, it is necessary to have a “rational way of building on land”.

This is a private residence built on a slope 4 m down from the road toward the pond.

In the case of such sloping land, it can be said that the general solution is to create a semi-underground RC frame that withstands soil pressure from above and takes into account the fit on the waterproof.

The challenge of the commission was to exalt the user’s connection with the natural context in their daily life. In this way, tours, a patio of water and terraces, add to the idea of creating atmospheres of relaxation, leisure and enjoyment.

The city of Garges-lès-Gonesse had the ambition to enrich its public facilities with a new cultural centre that would reflect the image of a young and artistically creative city. The work brings together the various disciplines that make up the city’s cultural landscape. The aim was to stimulate cross-cutting activities between the arts and to encourage the opening up of culture from this new cultural centre. The project unfolds around the existing Lino Ventura space with a 250-seat auditorium, a 200-seat cinema, a conservatory and a media library, organised around a generous, bright and crossing reception area. The Lino Ventura space benefits from a central urban location, at the heart of the town’s road network and public transport system. The project is located at the crossroads of the two main roads running through the town, Avenue du Général Leclerc and Avenue du Général de Gaulle.

Letná Apartment in Czech Republic by Markéta Bromová architekti

How do you create one open space out of a large multi-room apartment so that there doesn’t have to be a door between rooms because the client wanted as few as possible, but you still felt like the rooms were separated? We tried to clean the whole space, to use the existing structural and technical parameters of the apartment. The reinforced concrete ceiling structure with ribs was also exposed. This gave the apartment a rawer character.
