FAZENDA BOA VISTA in São Paulo, Brazil by Diego Revollo Arquitetura

Article source: Diego Revollo Arquitetura

A country retreat. That was the dream of the young couple with children, when back in 2019 they hired us to design their country house interiors. Long-time clients of our firm, they expressed their desire for a cosy space, which could offer the same amenities they have in their home in the city, but providing other sensory and aesthetic experiences, with a more direct interaction with nature.

Due to the pandemic, this desire was strengthened and translated into the search for lightness and calmness in each one of the rooms. A neutral palette has then been adopted, dictating the décor of the entire residence. Avoiding any colourful element – in order not to compromise the peaceful aura that we intended to emphasize –, the design approach focused on exploring different forms, framings and plasticities, especially promoting the use of natural materials.

Above the city level, located on top of one of the central neighborhood’s hills, a sloping terrain gives way to the Asa de Borboleta Residence. Adopting the lifestyle and preferences of the family, the project approached the contemporary applied to the location and the direction of the land to the city related to the path of the sun.

At first glance, when entering the gate, a patio in front of the children’s bedrooms introduces the lightness and the relationship of the house with the outside. The brise element on the bedroom doors allows light and ventilation to enter, whether open or closed.

Better’s New Offices: Shared values and tailored wellbeing in Ljubljana, Slovenia by KRAGELJ Design + Workplace

September 14th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: KRAGELJ Design + Workplace

Much has been written about the way organizations must embed their values in the design of their offices and their workplace culture more generally. Often these are shared values across societies, such as green building design, a better approach to diversity and inclusion, and the need to nurture personal wellbeing.

Sometimes, however, those values are linked to the very business model of the organization. A company that uses data on a global scale and whose mission is to improve health and care for individuals at a local level by simplifying the work of health and care teams.

A company like Better.

Robert-Koch-High-School in Berlin, Germany by SSP Rüthnick Architekten

Modernization, rehabilitation and extension of a high school in Berlin, Germany.

With a modern architectural language, SSP Rüthnick Architekten extended the school, which is under ensemble protection. The main building for 580 pupils was modernized and rehabilitated. The new building in the schoolyard complements the existing school building.

The three-story extension respectful distances itself from the solid masonry building with red clinker bricks. A modern-looking façade made of vertical larch wood slats was deliberately chosen to contrast with the historic brick building. In addition to the expressive cubature, the joints between the floors and the movable sliding elements gives the building plasticity. The wooden elements, which can be moved manually, serve as sun protection.

The new Herzog Fox Neeman offices in Israel by Auerbach Halevy Architects

The notion of “Reconnection” lies at the heart of the newly renovated office tower of Herzog Fox Neeman (HFN), one of the most prestigious law firms in Israel. Auerbach Halevy Architects, appointed as Lead Designers for the renovation, aimed to preserve the firm’s values with a push towards openness and connectedness at the heart of their conceptual thinking.

In 2019, 36 years after the company’s founding, Herzog Fox Neeman, moved from their previous 3000sqm offices in Beit Asia to a beautiful, newly renovated 16-storey office tower in Central Tel Aviv. This created a highly complex challenge for Auerbach Halevy, who were tasked to transition the HFN offices from their previous 2-storey office space to a far more substantial 25,000sqm vertical tower system to house up to 800 employees.

Let’s try guessing…what do you think this place is the moment you first see it? Is it a café, studio, themed park, boutique, or something else? Welcome to ‘WONDERLAND/HOME OF FILLER’, the beauty clinic that makes you feel like being surrounded by butterflies in a whimsical dreamscape.

What do you think about or imagine when you look at the sky? Have you ever seen animal-shaped clouds, and wondered whether there would be a castle with princesses and angels sleeping inside? Is the sky where heave is? Can we jump off an airplane and step on the clouds or pour syrup on one of those fluffy masses like we would on shaved ice? Would the clouds be as fluffy as cotton candy?

Where did the moments I lived go. — Fernando Pessoa

A Living Theatre Mount, the demonstration area of Vanke Cloud Valley project designed by Wutopia Lab for Xuzhou Vanke, will be completed, and opened by New Year’s Day 2022.

I do not have the strength to be a trash can, nor am I qualified to be a wish box, I just want to be an ordinary person, to be comforted and loved by others. — Honoré de Balzac

When I received the call inviting me to design, I was in the mountains on a land grant. In the intermittent signals I learned that the land was on the border between the old and new city in a northernmost city of Jiangsu. The client hoped that I could create a different kind of demonstration center at the narrow junction.
