BLACK KITE in East London, UK by Bureau de Change architects

October 8th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Bureau de Change architects

Bureau de Change have completed a creative studio for Black Kite, an independent visual effects and design studio in East London, curating a series of intersecting and carved-out cylinders. These configure a sequence of spaces with varying degrees of privacy; informed by the heritage of the site’s industrial past.

The client’s brief called for a specific working environment; production and visual effects suites that are isolated from external sources of light and sound. Bureau de Change responded to these conditions by devising a spatial strategy conceptualised from the site’s industrial past as an Engineers and Iron Foundry.

JATOBÁ HOUSE in Brazil by Guilherme Torres

October 7th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Guilherme Torres

Located in Fazenda Boa Vista, a luxury condominium in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil, Jatobá House stands with its simple lines and imposing volumes in the middle of the Atlantic Forest. Far from the big city, the country house has escapism as its mantra: every detail brings a relaxing atmosphere, where residents can disconnect and enjoy nature in its purest and simplest form.

The project’s conception started with a large block, which evolved volumetrically and was fragmented, filling the entire plot of land. The five large white cubic blocks that mark the project were then created: each of them is an independently functioning suite. Thus, the privacy and comfort of the family, consisting of a young couple with two teenage children, are preserved.

Casa Pattaya in Thailand by makeAscene

October 7th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: makeAscene

Designing a house in the high-density area of the resort town of Pattaya takes a little bit of design techniques from here and there. On one aspect the house is expected to express the laid-back nature of the seaside town, on the other hand the surroundings are quite cramped with neighbor walls right next to ours. The architect then carefully studies massing placement and utilize the negative space as the feature element to craft the overall architectural composition.

Article source: Brusnika

The Northern Quarter is a new housing estate in the northern-eastern part of    Yekaterinburg. Located in a residential area, the plot neighbours high-rises, private cottages, production facilities and garages.

The master plan from the Dutch LEVS Architecten restores the historical grid of streets, disrupted by industrial and private construction, aligns it and creates a rich environment based on the ‘city within the city’ principle, with variously sized and designed houses, a square, an avenue, numerous shopping facilities and amenities. Brusnika was the project’s contractor and developer.

My family and other animals» is a comprehensive home reform in the neighborhood of Vistabella (Murcia), for a family and their pets.

As in the well-known book by Gerald Durrell, “my family and other animals\”, animals are part of the daily life of this family. Unlike the house in Corfu, in this case we started from a 77m2 city apartment.

Before housing reform

The original house needed a total renovation.

Casa Laguna is located on the shores of the Zapallar lagoon. Its location in a privileged corner, separated from the beach by a narrow strip of sand, and its perfect implantation in the plot makes possible its good orientation and an original volumetry that adapts to its conditions.

The house is divided into two floors, which separate the use of more public spaces on the first floor and the bedrooms on the second floor.

Abu Dhabi Ladies Club in United Arab Emirates by UPAItalia and Tony Owen Partners

October 6th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: UPAItalia

The first club dedicated exclusively to women was built in the splendid setting of Abu Dhabi, overlooking a lagoon in the crystal clear sea of the Persian Gulf. In the new club, luxury and comfort bear the signature of Urbanism Planning Architecture, an international architecture firm with offices in Milan and Abu Dhabi. The main architect of the studio and co-founder is the Italian architect Paolo Lettieri.

This elegant and luxurious structure represents an oasis of well-being and relaxation for women, but above all, it speaks to us of a culture, the Arab one, which sees women, by tradition and religion, strictly separated from men. It is well known that in Middle Eastern society the life of men and women is clearly divided and distinct: all houses have two living rooms, one for men and the other for women; at school, women study separately from the opposite sex and public places also have waiting rooms for women only. If in everyday life the separation between the sexes could perhaps represent for the eyes of Westerners an exclusion of women from a male chauvinist society, the Ladies Club becomes a privileged place par excellence for women. A club where women from an elite by social and economic position can experience, in complete privacy and confidentiality, all the pleasures of luxury, body care and relaxation.

Without presupposing purpose

The project is located in Haidian District, Beijing, where the famous Jingxi Rice and Qianlong Imperial Fields are no longer well known to young people. Under the nourishment of the Xishan Mountains and Yongding River, the villages in the joint region of urban and rural areas have taken over the baton of urban development. As a result, countryside houses may become the focus in this situation, influencing the villages and towns and the people there in the new era.

Office Renovation | ONASSIS GROUP in Athens, Greece by Tenon Architecture

October 6th, 2022 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Tenon Architecture

The project entails the renovation of an office space located at ONASSIS GROUP in Athens. The guiding principle was to create a timber interior that innovatively juxtaposes organic forms and clean lines.

Covering the two pre-existing load-bearing columns and parts of the ceiling, the main element of the scheme is a sculptural plywood structure that draws inspiration from the ocean floor. The design fluidly unfolds and enfolds the space as it functions as a unifying gesture above eye-level. In stark contrast, the custom-made furniture was conceived in strong, geometric shapes that address the functional needs of a focused workspace as well as a collaborative meeting area.
